About The Position

The Quality Field Superintendent is the senior field inspection authority responsible for supervising and coordinating all inspection and quality verification activities on a project or across multiple job sites. This role ensures that construction operations comply with contract documents, technical specifications, regulatory codes, and company quality standards. The Quality Field Superintendent leads a team of inspectors across various disciplines and serves as the primary quality interface between field operations, subcontractors, engineers, and client representatives.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in field inspection or quality assurance/control on major construction or transportation projects.
  • Experience supervising multi-discipline inspection teams on large-scale or complex projects.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASTM, ACI, DOT, ICC, etc.).
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in reading construction drawings, specifications, and inspection documentation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with a focus on collaboration and issue resolution.

Nice To Haves

  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) preferred certification.
  • ICC Special Inspector certifications preferred (e.g., Reinforced Concrete, Structural Steel & Bolting).
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for inspection-related matters with the client, third-party inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate documentation handover for system acceptance, commissioning, and final client approval.
  • Direct and oversee all field inspection activities, including structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and specialty disciplines as required by project scope.
  • Ensure all inspections are performed safely and in accordance with site-specific safety protocols.
  • Ensure that work-in-progress, materials, and completed construction activities conform to contract requirements, approved submittals, and applicable codes.
  • Manage and verify the execution of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and test procedures.
  • Participate in pre-activity meetings, constructability reviews, and inspection readiness meetings.
  • Participate in quality audits, walkthroughs, and readiness reviews.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and milestone inspection summaries for project management and quality leadership.
  • Promote a culture of quality and accountability throughout the field workforce and inspection team.
  • Review and approve inspection reports, weld logs, material traceability records, test data, and turnover documentation.
  • Review and interpret project specifications, drawings, standards (e.g., ASTM, ACI, ICC), and quality plans to ensure accurate inspection execution.
  • Supervise, schedule, and mentor inspectors and technicians to ensure coverage, consistency, and technical accuracy.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in field execution and inspection methodology.
  • Track nonconformance reports (NCRs), oversee corrective actions, and participate in root cause analysis and resolution.
