About The Position

Leidos Mission Assurance is seeking a skilled Quality Engineer to support 2nd Shift operations with our Optics Payloads / Electronics team in Huntsville, AL. Second shift will work Monday – Thursday for four 10 hr shifts. This exciting opportunity will support Quality Engineering efforts on a satellite missile warning program. The Quality Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring mechanical, electrical, and optical manufacturing plus assembly integration & testing of spaceflight hardware meets all requirements. Primary responsibilities will be with the Wide Field of View (WFOV) program which is an optical payload on a missile warning and tracking satellite. Primary Responsibilities: This role will support quality assurance activities, ensuring compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. They will work cross-functionally with other Quality personnel, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Program Management to ensure product integrity and compliance throughout the lifecycle. Ensure adherence to AS9100, customer, and regulatory requirements across the program. Manage the resolution and documentation of non-conformances. Lead root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action (RCCA/CAPA) initiatives. Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) per industry standards. Support Design Reviews, Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRRs), and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs). Perform customer audits, source inspections, and quality reviews. Collaborate with Program Management and Engineering to resolve quality-related challenges. Promote Continuous Improvement & Data-Driven Decision Making Utilize metrics and data analysis to identify trends, drive improvements, and reduce defects. Ensure a culture of quality and accountability within the organization.

Requirements

  • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree with 4 - 8 years of prior relevant work experience or a Master’s degree with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant work experience. In lieu of a degree, a High School diploma/GED or equivalent education with 10 years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Must be able to work 2nd shift
  • Candidate must have experience working with non-conforming material, performing failure analysis, identifying root cause and implementing corrective action.
  • Must be knowledgeable of standard inspection and measurement equipment, i.e. micrometers, calipers, multimeters, magnification, black light inspections, etc.
  • Must be able to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing requirements
  • Experience working with customer quality representatives, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to pass an eye exam for visual inspection.
  • Candidate must be a resident of, or willing to relocate to, the Huntsville, AL area.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain ( as well as maintain) a Secret Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Candidate ideally will have at least 4 years of quality experience in an ISO9001/AS9100 system or equivalent experience in DOD, Aerospace, or Automotive manufacturing quality control.
  • Hands-on experience with FAI (AS9102), RCCA (8D, 5-Why), and quality tools.
  • Knowledge of satellite, telescope, and/or optical manufacturing practices.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in a cleanroom environment
  • Experience compiling End Item Data Packages
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or AS9100 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Experience with DoD, NASA, or hypersonic programs.
