About The Position

Corning is seeking a Quality Engineer to support product and process quality within its Solar Modular manufacturing operation. The role monitors manufacturing quality performance, identifies product and process issues, supports root-cause investigations, and implements improvements to reduce defects and improve process capability.

The Quality Engineer works with Operations, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Measurements & Controls, and Quality teams to ensure manufacturing processes meet product and quality requirements. It offers an early-career engineer the opportunity to develop hands-on expertise in manufacturing quality, statistical analysis, process control, and structured problem solving.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or another related technical discipline.
• One or more years of entry-level experience in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Process Engineering, or another related technical environment.
• Demonstrated technical aptitude and ability to apply engineering and quality principles to manufacturing problems.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing quality, process control, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use manufacturing and quality data to support technical decisions.
• Basic understanding of statistical concepts and their application to manufacturing processes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify product and process quality abnormalities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional partners.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently as well as within a team.
• Ability to work effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

• Internship, co-op, or other experience in manufacturing quality, process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or production operations.
• Experience in solar module, wafer, semiconductor, electronics, glass, or other technically complex manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, Gauge R&R, process capability, 8D, 5 Why, or root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other manufacturing Quality Management Systems.
• Experience collecting, analyzing, or interpreting manufacturing and quality data.
• Experience with data-analysis or visualization tools such as Excel, Minitab, or Power BI.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, DMAIC, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience participating in process qualifications, manufacturing trials, new product introduction, or manufacturing start-up activities.
• Six Sigma Green Belt certification or related continuous improvement training.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day quality engineering support for Solar Modular manufacturing processes and production activities.
• Monitor product and process quality performance and identify trends, abnormalities, defects, or conditions requiring investigation.
• Analyze manufacturing and quality data to identify sources of variation and opportunities to improve product quality, yield, and process capability.
• Lead or support investigations of manufacturing quality issues using structured problem-solving methods, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Partner with Operations, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Measurements & Controls, and other technical teams to resolve product and process quality concerns.
• Support containment, evaluation, and disposition of nonconforming product according to established quality procedures.
• Develop and maintain process quality controls, inspection criteria, sampling methods, specifications, and quality documentation.
• Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other statistical tools to monitor manufacturing processes and identify potential quality risks.
• Participate in PFMEA, Control Plan, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gauge R&R, process capability, and other quality-planning activities.
• Support product and process qualifications, manufacturing trials, process changes, and new product introductions.
• Partner with Measurements & Controls and Process Engineering to ensure measurement methods and inspection systems can detect and control critical product characteristics.
• Support corrective and preventive action activities and verify the effectiveness of implemented improvements.
• Support internal quality audits and compliance with established Quality Management System requirements.
• Collaborate with production teams to improve adherence to process controls, inspection requirements, and quality standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction, yield improvement, scrap reduction, process capability, and manufacturing consistency.
• Develop and maintain quality reports, process-quality metrics, investigation documentation, and other technical records.
• Promote a strong culture of quality, safety, continuous improvement, and quality at the source throughout the manufacturing operation.
