Quality Engineer

GoHealth Urgent Care•Rochester, MN
•$83,500 - $114,858

About The Position

The Quality Engineer supports GoHealth’s transition from traditional quality assurance to a modern Quality Engineering model while maintaining hands-on manual testing. The role builds quality into the software development lifecycle by partnering early with product, engineering, operations, clinical, and support stakeholders to identify risk, clarify requirements, improve testability, perform manual validation, expand automation where appropriate, and increase release confidence before production. The engineer learns the business and its workflows, develops expertise in how solutions operate, advocates for end users, and evaluates whether software supports intended business outcomes as well as written acceptance criteria. The position supports quality practices across product engineering teams and tests web, mobile, API, integration, and back-end services. It includes manual, exploratory, regression, integration, end-to-end, risk-based, API, accessibility, and cross-browser testing, as well as repeatable testing approaches and automation where appropriate. The Quality Engineer works with product owners, engineers, operations, clinical stakeholders, and support teams to assess risk, investigate and validate defects, strengthen release readiness, and support production decisions. The role also validates urgent care workflows such as patient registration, insurance capture, payments, EMR integration, messaging, and operational tools. It contributes to quality gates, release validation, defect and root-cause analysis, coverage reporting, and continuous improvement. The position manages a support ticket queue and may participate in on-call and off-hours coverage for releases, production validation, and critical quality support. Occasional travel may be required, typically once or twice per year, up to 5%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience performing manual, exploratory, regression, integration, API, web-based, mobile, or enterprise application testing, or equivalent demonstrated ability through software quality, engineering, automation, support, or technical product work.
  • Ability to create thoughtful test plans, perform detailed manual validation, ask strong questions, connect business context to technical behavior, identify risk early, validate end-to-end workflows, and explain defects clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
  • Experience partnering throughout the software development lifecycle to influence quality early, clarify requirements, assess testability, surface risks before development is complete, and support informed production readiness decisions.
  • Experience working within agile delivery teams using common planning, sprint, test management, pipeline, and cross-browser testing tools to support story refinement, sprint execution, test coverage, release readiness, and continuous delivery practices.
  • Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills for interaction and collaboration with other departments.
  • Ability to understand system behavior and business impact, identify risks, and promote high-quality outcomes across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to develop an understanding of complex business processes, recognize workflow impacts, and explain expected system behavior in practical terms.
  • Ability to ask thoughtful questions, raise concerns constructively, challenge assumptions respectfully, and build productive partnerships.
  • Ability to develop working knowledge of GoHealth’s business model, operational workflows, product behavior, integrations, and user needs.
  • Ability to evaluate software against practical workflows and use cases for patients, providers, center staff, operations, and support teams.
  • Ability to improve testability and validate edge cases, exceptions, integrations, and operational scenarios beyond the happy path.
  • Technical capability to apply automation, API testing, test data analysis, logs, repeatable checks, test management practices, pipeline quality gates, and cross-browser validation.
  • Ability to apply accessibility and ADA-informed testing practices.
  • Ability to treat quality as a shared responsibility by partnering to prevent defects, resolve issues, improve processes, and support successful delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare technology experience, including familiarity with urgent care workflows, patient registration, electronic medical records, HL7 integrations, Epic, eClinicalWorks, payment workflows, or revenue cycle processes.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Jira, QMetry, BrowserStack, or comparable platforms; emphasis is on applying appropriate quality practices rather than relying on a specific toolset.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, ADA considerations, inclusive design principles, and practical validation of accessible user experiences across web and mobile applications.
  • Quality engineering, automation, accessibility, cloud, healthcare technology, or security-related certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Support scalable quality practices across product engineering delivery teams by improving validation methods, identifying risks early, strengthening release readiness, and building understanding of supported products and workflows.
  • Design, document, execute, and maintain manual, exploratory, regression, integration, end-to-end, and risk-based test cases for web, mobile, API, integration, and back-end services.
  • Develop and maintain repeatable testing approaches, including automation where appropriate, to support sprint delivery, regression coverage, release readiness, and production quality.
  • Partner with product owners, software engineers, operations, clinical stakeholders, and support teams to clarify requirements, assess risk, improve testability, investigate defects, validate fixes, and strengthen quality controls before release.
  • Validate urgent care workflows, including patient registration, insurance capture, payments, EMR integration, messaging, operational tools, and related digital products.
  • Evaluate product changes against operational workflows, end-user needs, and business outcomes, and identify gaps between written requirements and practical use.
  • Build solution expertise to explain how features, data, integrations, and workflows operate, and identify downstream impacts from defects, design gaps, or missed edge cases.
  • Perform API, accessibility, ADA-informed, cross-browser, integration, regression, smoke, exploratory, and end-to-end testing using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Use agile planning, sprint management, test case management, pipeline, and cross-browser testing platforms to organize work, maintain traceability, monitor coverage, and support release decisions.
  • Contribute to quality gates, release validation, defect trend analysis, root-cause analysis, test coverage reporting, and continuous improvement metrics.
  • Support production readiness by validating critical workflows, communicating risks, confirming defects are resolved as intended, and helping teams determine deployment readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce repetitive manual validation, improve test coverage, strengthen documentation, and make quality practices easier for engineering teams to adopt.
  • Manage the support ticket queue by analyzing issues and providing clear end-user support.
  • Participate in on-call and off-hours coverage as needed for releases, production validation, and critical quality support needs.
