About The Position

The Quality Engineer is responsible for managing customer and supplier relationships, driving root cause problem solving, overseeing incoming and outgoing part quality, and ensuring alignment with product requirements and company quality standards. This role will work closely with the customer, supply chain, engineering, and production teams to ensure the quality of materials and components used in manufacturing meet all required specifications.

Requirements

  • Candidates with 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience in automotive based manufacturing desired.
  • Managerial experience or demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong metrology background and experience working with precision measurement tools and systems.
  • Demonstration and knowledge of the AIAG Core Tools a must: APQP, CPLAN, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and/or AS 9100 quality systems a must, certified auditors preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface effectively with suppliers, internal teams, and leadership.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and quality systems software (e.g., Minitab, SAP, or similar ERP/QMS platforms).

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience with injection or compress molding, and furnace curing processes preferred.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for customer interface involving PPAP submissions, and response time to customer concerns and inquiries.
  • Responsible for evaluating and managing the performance of the supply base, driving continuous improvement in supplier capability, quality, and delivery.
  • Lead problem-solving efforts related to non-conforming material for both supplied product as well as manufactured products through cross-functional team projects.
  • Must be proficient in the problem-solving tools: 5-Why methodology, Fishbone methodology, 8D reporting methodology.
  • Oversee and maintain incoming inspection processes and metrology systems to ensure accurate evaluation of critical components and materials.
  • May help manage the audit system, including but not limited to, internal audits, external 3rd party audits and supply chain audits.
  • Initiate and manage quality performance metrics (KPIs) to assess risk and enforce compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain and optimize measurement systems (CMMs, micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, etc.), and train others on proper inspection techniques.
  • Support supplier development through training, coaching, and on-site visits when needed.
  • Manage and maintain the PPAP and/or First Article Inspection (FAI) process: Maintain point of contact for all customers required PPAP and/or FAI request, Review and approve supplier PPAPs (Production Part Approval Process), Review and approve supplier FAI. Review supplier APQP requirements, as needed.
  • Ensure the implementation and sustainment of quality systems in alignment with ISO/IATF requirements.
  • Participate in the planning, qualification, and implementation of new suppliers and materials.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of supplier processes using Lean Six Sigma principles.
  • Prepare and deliver performance reports, trend analyses, and risk mitigation strategies to leadership.
  • Lead material disposition and MRB (Material Review Board) processes when supplier issues arise.
  • Ability to read and interpret data and recognize positive and negative trends and identify continuous improvement projects to address negative trends.
