About The Position

Imagine contributing to critical infrastructure projects that power communication and scheduling for every Apple employee. As a Quality Engineer on the Mail & Calendar Services team, you’ll ensure the reliability and correctness of two interconnected systems: Apple Corporate Mail and Corporate Calendar Server implementations. This role offers the opportunity to apply deep testing expertise across email and calendar server standards and use cases, as well as testing of custom features by building sophisticated automation frameworks that set high standards for validation of data integrity and correct behavior. You’ll work at the intersection of quality engineering, standards compliance, and distributed system testing, contributing work that directly enables Apple’s internal collaboration platforms to scale and evolve. Join us in doing work that matters. DESCRIPTION As a Quality Engineer supporting Mail & Calendar Services, you will ensure the reliability and correctness of two critical infrastructure systems: Apple Corporate Mail and Corporate Calendar Server implementations. You’ll design validation strategies, build sophisticated testing tools, and provide the final sign-off that gives confidence to deploy changes affecting thousands of corporate users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in quality engineering, test automation, or software testing roles
  • Demonstrated deep expertise in email systems (IMAP, SMTP, mail migration) OR calendar systems (CalDAV, iCalendar, scheduling infrastructure), with strong analytical skills to learn the complementary domain
  • Proficiency in Python OR Java with experience building test automation frameworks and working with APIs
  • Experience establishing data integrity verification procedures including message counts, content checksums, metadata preservation, and structural validation
  • Demonstrated ability to write and maintain automated test plans suitable for CI/CD integration across server development and deployment workflows

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in BOTH email and calendar domains (ideal but not required—we value depth in one with ability to learn the other)
  • Background in enterprise email administration, IMAP/SMTP server operations, or CalDAV server implementations
  • Proficiency in both Python and Java testing ecosystems (TestNG, Gauge, BDD frameworks)
  • Experience with large-scale data migration projects (>10,000 users or >1TB data) or high-availability calendar services
  • Deep knowledge of RFC specifications: RFC 5545 (iCalendar), RFC 4791 (CalDAV), RFC 5322 (email format), RFC 3501 (IMAP)
  • Experience with complex temporal logic (recurrence rules, timezone handling, DST transitions) or complex state machines (attendee workflows, event lifecycles)
  • Familiarity with Apple ecosystem technologies (iCloud, Mail.app, Calendar.app, iOS/macOS frameworks)
  • Experience testing distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, or protocol-level implementations
  • Track record of building reusable test tools and frameworks adopted by other teams
  • Contributions to open-source testing, email-related, or calendar-related projects
  • Experience with ical4j library or similar iCalendar manipulation frameworks
