Carbon is looking for a Quality Engineer to join our team at our Sunnyvale, CA office. The ideal candidate shall take ownership of manufacturing quality on the production floor, partnering with technicians and engineers to ensure quality and timeliness of builds while proactively monitoring production and field data for systemic trends. This is a hands-on, highly autonomous role in a fast-paced engineering environment. We are looking for someone who can lead by example and drive critical decisions in cross-functional forums. This role is located in our Sunnyvale, CA office location and requires working onsite Monday through Friday. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, now or in the future. This role is not eligible for relocation.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering)
  • 2+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, efficiently managing conflicting priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Quality System standards such as ISO 9001
  • Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), process capability indices (SPC), and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
  • Exceptional problem-solving (8D reports, 5 Whys, etc.) skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • Experience with mechanical, optical, and electrical metrology tools and the willingness to perform testing as needed
  • Experience with Quickbase, JIRA, Tableau, Oracle, and JMP

Responsibilities

  • Investigate manufacturing nonconformance's and customer complaints, leading root cause investigations through to closure
  • Contain quality issues using structured problem solving methods (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone) and verify applicable corrective actions hold
  • Develop quality control plans and tests for mechanical, electrical, and optical subassemblies
  • Support supplier quality efforts including running meetings, managing FAI, owning SCARs, and performing DFMEA
  • Partner with technicians and engineers on the floor to troubleshoot issues and keep builds on schedule
  • Drive continuous improvement (Lean, Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma) to eliminate recurring yield loss, rework, or downtime
  • Implement in-process inspection and SPC monitoring to catch issues at the point of occurrence
  • Collaborate with Engineering during NPI efforts to build manufacturability and quality requirements in from the start
  • Communicate quality trends, risks, and process changes clearly to engineering, operations, and leadership
  • Lead cross-functional teams through quality issues including their containment and reconciliation plans
