About The Position

Responsible for moderately complex engineering projects, coordinating work to ensure objectives in terms of quality, cost, and time are met. Prepares project schedules, reviews cost estimates, and compiles required information. Responsible for effective communication of engineering information among team members, following Pella’s Safety, Quality, Project Management & Continuous Improvement Systems. May supervise assigned technical team members. Serves as a resource, providing technical information and engineering recommendations. Contributes to project identification and definition, normally working under the guidance of a supervisor. Develops, implements, and/or supports assigned technologies, products, and processes. Primarily an individual contributor role, but capable of leading a team in technical projects. May supervise non-exempt and hourly employees. Proven experience beyond education to support and deliver high-quality products and processes through the application of engineering principles. Exhibits competency and begins to develop expertise in multiple engineering technologies. Performs work which involves conventional practice but may include a variety of complex features. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies engineering principles to product and process modifications. Exercises independent judgment to define project objectives and engineering/scientific approach. Assignments may require development of unclear objectives and require investigation of multiple variables.

Requirements

  • 3+ years combined engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, or relevant Science or combination of education and experience.
  • Microsoft Office applications and Minitab.
  • Engineering statistics (Lean Sigma tools).
  • Periodically exposed to machinery where safe operating procedures must be followed, occasional lifting of materials up to 30 lbs. is required, work environment is noisy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and improve processes to uphold product quality standards.
  • Track and monitor key quality performance metrics in order to reduce manufacturing defects.
  • The scope of influence of this position spans manufacturing, engineering, product development, sales branches and material vendors.
  • Strong influential leadership skills are necessary when planning and implementing PPM projects and when prioritizing plant quality activities.
  • The ability to effectively present information, defend a position and address concerns is key to fostering collaboration.
  • Responsible for the deployment of the Pella Quality System including the development and oversight of each plant’s annual quality plan.
  • Supervise plant quality & gauge technicians.
