About The Position

The Quality Engineer will support work associated with the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) SMASS II contract located at MSFC, via a Resident Management Office of a designated Critical Supplier, located in EAST AURORA, NEW YORK. This role involves technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating assignments, and planning/developing S&MA engineering and assurance activity that may have an important effect on major programs. The position requires preparing, evaluating, and assessing in-house and contracted quality-related processes, procedures, and manufacturing activities, with a specific focus on contractor manufacturing systems. Responsibilities include reviewing QA/QE documentation for compliance with NASA policy, Marshall Management System (MMS), Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) directorate organizational instructions, and program-specific requirements. The role supports the preparation, evaluation, and assessment of documentation and processes for manufacturing, inspection, and test phases of programs and projects, and participation in government milestone reviews to evaluate certification requirements affecting design, safety, production, testing, and operation. The Quality Engineer will develop/utilize tools to ensure all applicable quality requirements are identified for MSFC programs/projects, perform drawing and procurement documentation review, and provide support in all quality areas including quality plans, surveillance plans, inspection instructions, first article inspections, NC resolutions, test, failure investigations, RCCA analysis, and other QE-related functions. Developing metrics as needed and performing other duties as assigned are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering or related field.
  • Must have 5+ years of recent and related work experience.
  • In lieu of degree: Candidates with 9+ years of recent and related experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of NASA S&MA requires manufacturing processes in support of the design and development of flight hardware.
  • Possess a working knowledge of AS9100/ISO9000 quality management system requirements.
  • Ability to read complex blueprints, technical charts, and specification sheets.
  • Material Review Board (MRB) experience is absolutely critical to this role.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an insight, risk-based, or COTs type contracts as well as compliance-based contract and services is highly desirable.
  • Launch vehicle integration experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with NASA/DoD flight hardware in a manufacturing and production environment.
  • Integrated Product Team Experience.
  • PMP, or DAWIA Project Management Certification is desired.
