Quality Engineer

Icarus•El Segundo, CA
•$100,000 - $220,000•Onsite

About The Position

Icarus is hiring a Quality Engineer at Level I, Level II, or Level III. The assigned level will be determined during the interview process based on technical skills, relevant experience, and demonstrated scope of ownership. The role owns build quality from incoming parts through aircraft assembly, working hands-on with manufacturing, engineering, test, and supply chain. The position is based on-site at Icarus in El Segundo and supports quality as designs and production processes evolve. The Quality Engineer develops inspection criteria for purchased parts, composite structures, avionics, wiring, and mechanical assemblies; establishes first-article checks for new suppliers and design changes; contains and documents nonconforming material; coordinates engineering disposition; and verifies corrective actions. The role works with suppliers to resolve recurring defects and improve part consistency, and turns build and test findings into improved work instructions, in-process checks, and design feedback. The position maintains inspection, material traceability, and configuration records connected to aircraft under construction using ION and supporting tools. It uses defect, rework, and yield data to prioritize improvements and verify results, and supports calibrated measurement tools, production readiness reviews, and flight-hardware acceptance as production grows. The work is hands-on and ownership-driven, with close collaboration across a small engineering team and the opportunity to contribute to real aircraft hardware and flight systems.

Requirements

  • A degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, manufacturing, or a related engineering field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience building, inspecting, testing, or improving real hardware; internships and substantial project work count for Level I.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications and use appropriate measurement and inspection tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including distinguishing symptoms from root causes, documenting evidence, and following corrective actions through completion.
  • Clear communication with technicians, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Willingness to spend time on the factory floor.
  • Ability to work on-site at Icarus in El Segundo and take ownership of quality as designs and production processes evolve.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, learn quickly, troubleshoot in the field, and work with urgency and an emphasis on quality.

Nice To Haves
