About The Position

This role is for a current open position at Samuel Associated Tube Group, a premier supplier of welded cold-drawn stainless steel, high nickel alloy and carbon tubular products. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for leading corrective actions, implementing statistical techniques, supporting quality management systems, and driving continuous improvement projects. Requirements

  • Certification: ASQ Quality Engineer certification and/or Lean six sigma green belt or higher.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Quality Engineer or in a related position.
  • Qualified internal auditor.
  • Knowledge of stainless steel / nickel-based alloys with focus on processing including roll forming, welding, heat treating, and both destructive and non-destructive testing methods.
  • Experience with supporting and maintaining AS9100/ISO 9001/IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems.
  • Working knowledge of various material and commercial specifications such as ASTM, ASME, AMS/SAE and special process specifications.
  • Knowledge of MSA.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods, Lean and Six Sigma methodologies is required.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and apply GD&T to engineering drawings.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals & manufacturing work instructions in English.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers and stakeholders and to effectively present information to top management.
  • Must be a team player to drive team problem solving solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead corrective actions using 8-D format, fault trees, cause & effect diagrams, 5 Whys, and other tools; and communicate data internally and externally.
  • Utilize statistical techniques such as failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), reliability failure analysis, design of experiments, statistical decision making, statistical process control (SPC), and Six Sigma implementation.
  • Participate in and understand Zero-Defect methodologies, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and other principles for various customer programs.
  • Support AS9100/ISO9001/IAFT16949 quality management system requirements with implementation, training and maintenance of Quality department operating procedures, conducting internal audits and preparing data for quality management review.
  • Support additional customer requirements including preparation and interface for surveys, readiness reviews, review and approve AS9102 first article inspections, PPAP and annual validations.
  • Implement and utilize Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  • Perform manufacturing process audits using control plans and PFMEA as input.
  • Analyze audit results and determine proper corrective and preventive action.
  • Participate in and/or coordinate material review board (MRB) activities to issue, track and close corrective actions, respond to customer requests for corrective action and generate failure and investigation reports.
  • Conduct continuous improvement projects and initiatives, including Kaizens (CI), Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions.
  • Support and aid Process Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering in development and revisions for productivity, detailed work instructions, process approvals, and offset cause of deviations from quality standards.
  • Perform failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), process failure modes and effects analysis (PFMEA) and reverse PFMEAs.
  • Apply knowledge of ASTM /ASME International Specifications for steel tubes, including specifications for welded stainless-steel tubing.
  • Assess quality performance & risk (or cost-of-quality) using statistical and analytical methods.
