Quality Engineer - Packaging

World CentricStone Mountain, GA
Onsite

About The Position

World Centric is a mission-driven company focused on compostable products and donating 25% of profits to charitable causes. They are seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer for their Stone Mountain, GA location. This role is lab-based and involves inspecting finished products, testing new products, and supporting quality, food safety, and social compliance programs for packaging lines. Since World Centric partners with contract manufacturers, the quality influence is exerted through testing, specifications, and supplier engagement rather than direct process control. The position requires rigorous, repetitive testing, measuring, recording, and analyzing product performance, with a strong emphasis on methodical and detailed work. The Quality Engineer will operate with a remote manager and needs to be comfortable managing priorities independently, escalating issues as needed, and engaging directly with various levels of the organization, including the on-site CEO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Packaging Engineering, or a closely related engineering or engineering technology discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with measurement and inspection equipment (calipers, scales, force gauges) and the ability to interpret results.
  • Experience with supplier quality investigations, root-cause analysis, and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, set priorities, manage deadlines, and escalate issues appropriately, with a remote manager.
  • Confident communication skills across all organizational levels, including presenting technical findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Working knowledge of food-contact packaging requirements and quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with FSSC 22000, BRCGS Packaging Materials, ISO 9001, amfori BSCI, SMETA/Sedex, or SA8000.
  • Comfort with repetitive, high-accuracy testing and inspection work.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; comfortable with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and/or lab management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or comparable quality certification.
  • Experience managing quality outcomes in an outsourced or contract-manufacturing model, including supplier audits and offshore supplier relationships.
  • Active ASQ certification (CQI, CQA, CQE) or equivalent.
  • Track record of building or standardizing test methods and inspection systems, not just executing existing ones.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test products for conformance to specifications, including dimensions, capacity, lid fit, structural integrity, and performance under various conditions (food-contact, heat, moisture, freezer).
  • Support quality, food safety, and social compliance programs by maintaining records, tracking requirements, and ensuring documentation is current and timely.
  • Investigate customer complaints and quality concerns by reviewing data, conducting tests, identifying root causes, and documenting corrective actions.
  • Partner directly with contract manufacturers and suppliers on quality investigations, corrective actions, and product consistency.
  • Test and evaluate new products and product changes against performance, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Analyze inspection and test data to identify trends and recommend improvements to reduce defects.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment, inspection tools, and measurement devices.
  • Maintain quality documentation, including specifications, test methods, inspection reports, procedures, and testing schedules.
  • Lead or support projects related to quality improvement, supplier development, and new product introduction.
  • Prepare and ship product samples using approved tracking systems.
