About The Position

Aerometals is looking to add a Quality Engineer II to their team. This role involves originating and managing Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), determining the scope and impact of nonconforming events, and leading Material Review Board (MRB) activities. The position also requires leading Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, authoring Corrective Action Reports (CARs), and responding to customer SCARs. The Quality Engineer II will track NCR aging, report metrics, conduct internal audits against AS9100 requirements, and provide mentorship to QE I personnel. Participation in the AS9100 Quality Program and performing other duties as required are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Technical writing and formal report generation (CARs, MRB packages, deviation/waiver requests).
  • Proficiency with various RCCA methodologies: 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa, Is/Is-Not, FTA.
  • Technical communication with production, engineering, customers, and suppliers.
  • Analytical and critical thinking for complex nonconformance investigation.
  • Understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and AS9100 QMS requirements.
  • 3 years in high-reliability manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Originate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) on the production floor as necessary.
  • Receive NCRs originated by QE I personnel and own the investigation workflow through closure.
  • Determine the full scope and impact of nonconforming events; identify all affected hardware, operations, and potential escapes to downstream processes or customers.
  • Perform or coordinate containment actions to prevent further use or shipment of nonconforming product during investigation.
  • Lead Material Review Board (MRB) activities; prepare disposition packages, present findings, and coordinate approvals with design engineering and program management.
  • Evaluate nonconforming hardware for applicable disposition (use-as-is, rework, repair, scrap).
  • Lead formal Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations using structured methodologies as required — 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa, Is/Is-Not, Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Facilitate cross-functional RCCA sessions with production, manufacturing engineering, and supply chain to identify all contributing factors.
  • Author complete Corrective Action Reports (CARs) documenting: problem statement, containment, verified root cause, permanent corrective action, implementation evidence, and effectiveness verification criteria.
  • Prepare and deliver corrective action responses to customer Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs).
  • Track NC aging and corrective action closure; report metrics and trends to Quality Manager.
  • Serve as a trained internal auditor and conduct internal audits against AS9100 requirements.
  • Provide technical mentorship and day-to-day guidance to QE I personnel.
  • Participate in the AS9100 Quality Program.
  • Perform other duties as required by the organization.
