About The Position

GAF is searching for a Quality Engineer who will assist with creating and maintaining the quality culture at the plant level. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for managing plant calibrations, COA, raw material, and finished goods records, working with process experts to reduce variation on finished goods and processing equipment, and assisting with meeting operational and financial business objectives (i.e. OEE, MUV, etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Engineering
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals to include root cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches and structured problem solving
  • Ability to translate technical data into a format/ language suitable for personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot process or equipment upset conditions impacting OEE or uptime performance.
  • Manage quality data and testing frequency to understand, improve, and define quality control through the process and products.
  • Perform routine measurement system analysis (MSA) for the plant and take action based on testing results.
  • Assist in the execution of Quality Improvement projects using standard PI tools such as MVT/DOE, and Kepner Tregoe PSDM.
  • Execute approved capital improvements resulting from these projects, by coordinating with managers on timelines, budget and resources needed.
  • Work with corporate Quality resources to update SOPs and GAF Quality manual.
  • Retrain personnel on quality documentation such as SFP, PCD, TFP, SOP, and calibration documents pertaining to the business unit.
  • Educate production personnel on Statistical Quality Control (SQC) as it relates to impacts on finished goods and raw material variations.
  • Leads the application and interpretation of SQC charting as it relates to the product.
  • Collaborate with the Quality & Technical Manager on execution.
  • Manage calibrations, audits, finished goods, COA records, and raw material batch tracking.
  • Conduct quality audits with certifying partners and internally.
  • Create an action plan based on audit results to improve the quality of the plant based on recommendations.
  • Support product improvement and new product development efforts.
  • Lead the efforts to define and develop testing protocols for finished product performance or raw material performance.
  • Conduct Vendor CAPA analysis on raw materials.
  • Collaborate with procurement, supply chain, and the suppliers to find a resolution and improve upon raw material quality issues.
  • Communicate findings to the plant.
