About The Position

The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting aerospace quality assurance activities for manufacturing, repair, inspection, test, supplier quality, customer quality, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures product and documentation compliance to customer requirements, engineering drawings, specifications, purchase orders, AS9100/ISO 9001 requirements, FAA/regulatory requirements where applicable, and internal procedures. The Quality Engineer supports root cause investigations, corrective actions, FAIs, audit readiness, nonconforming material review, delegated customer release activities, configuration control, supplier quality, and direct customer communication.

Requirements

  • Four-year technical degree or equivalent experience required; Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Four to eight years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience in aerospace, defense, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with frequent shop floor interaction, including direct support of production, inspection, test, engineering, and customer-facing quality activities.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements required.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, or approving AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports required.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methods, including 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone/Ishikawa, containment, corrective action, preventive action, and effectiveness verification.
  • Experience reviewing aerospace technical data, including drawings, specifications, purchase orders, ATPs, OMMs/CMMs, material certifications, special process certifications, and customer quality clauses.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical reports, customer responses, audit responses, investigation reports, and corrective action documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office and other applicable quality, ERP, and data analysis systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including shop floor personnel, engineering, management, customers, suppliers, auditors, and inspectors.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing and repair environment with shifting priorities and direct customer impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with FAA 8130-3 documentation, repair station documentation, FAA Part 21 production approval documentation, or FAA Part 145 repair station documentation preferred.
  • Familiarity with APQP/PPAP, AS9145, AS13100, key characteristics, process capability, and MSA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support and assure compliance with applicable aerospace regulatory and quality system requirements, including AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA Part 21 production approval requirements, FAA Part 145 repair station requirements, and applicable customer-specific quality requirements.
  • Review products and documentation in accordance with applicable customer, regulatory, military, industry, and internal quality requirements.
  • Assure that customer quality requirements are adequately defined to permit appropriate quality planning, implementation, inspection, documentation, and product release.
  • Support company certifications, external agency approvals, and customer approvals, including AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP/Nadcap, and other applicable customer or regulatory approvals.
  • Review customer purchase orders, drawings, specifications, quality clauses, repair instructions, ATPs, OMMs/CMMs, and flow-down requirements to ensure quality planning, inspection, documentation, and release activities are properly defined before work is performed.
  • Work closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Test, and Inspection personnel to resolve quality-related issues involving design, methods, tooling, procedures, costs, and product conformance.
  • Establish, revise, and maintain written procedures, instructions, and quality documentation related to product quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in Material Review Board and nonconforming material activities, including defect investigation, containment, disposition support, customer notification support, and verification of corrective actions.
  • Perform root cause analysis using tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone/Ishikawa, and other structured problem-solving methods to identify appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in cross-functional corrective action teams, including Corrective Action Board activities, to investigate quality issues, eliminate causes of nonconformance, and verify corrective action effectiveness.
  • Investigate customer complaints, field returns, internal defects, supplier issues, and audit findings; work with customer representatives and internal teams to resolve problems.
  • Oversee critical testing and inspection activities; coordinate inspections with customers, source inspectors, government representatives, and internal inspection personnel as required.
  • Analyze and document inspection and test results to support product acceptance, customer release, and corrective action activities.
  • Review raw material certifications and approve raw material for production release when required.
  • Prepare, review, and approve product data packages, including inspection records, test reports, material certifications, special process certifications, traceability records, and customer-required documentation.
  • Perform, review, and approve component and final product First Article Inspection Reports in accordance with AS9102 and applicable customer requirements.
  • Communicate directly with customers, suppliers, auditors, inspectors, and internal stakeholders in a clear, professional, and technically accurate manner.
  • Interface directly with customers to support quality planning, customer concerns, source inspection, audit support, product release, and issue resolution.
  • Support supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective actions, review of supplier documentation, supplier FAIRs, material certifications, special process certifications, and flow-down compliance.
  • Become a Delegated Quality Representative, when required, for selected customers or programs, including applicable customer delegation programs such as AS13001 or equivalent requirements.
  • Perform and participate in internal, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits to assure compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal requirements.
  • Evaluate, develop, and maintain activities required to audit quality system effectiveness, including procedure audits, quality system audits, product audits, and process audits.
  • Support preparation of objective evidence, audit responses, corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness for internal and external audit findings.
  • Facilitate the use of Lean, Six Sigma, and other quality tools to support process improvement, defect reduction, and preventive action.
  • Analyze quality data, escape trends, NCR trends, customer complaints, audit findings, supplier issues, and process performance to identify risks and drive preventive action.
  • Support APQP/PPAP, key characteristic control, process capability, MSA, and risk-based quality planning activities when required by customer contract, drawing, specification, or internal risk assessment.
