About The Position

Sapphire Technologies is seeking a hands-on Quality & Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to establish, lead, and continuously improve the company's quality-management and EHS programs. This position is responsible for product and process quality, the quality management system, ISO 9001 certification, supplier quality, workplace health and safety, environmental compliance, and related regulatory programs. The role supports the industrialization and production of complex electromechanical equipment, including rotating machinery and associated electrical systems. It partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and external specialists to ensure products and processes meet customer, regulatory, quality, environmental, health, and safety requirements. This is a functional leadership role with significant hands-on involvement and will shape the quality and EHS systems of an emerging energy-technology business as it industrializes new products and expands its manufacturing capabilities. The successful candidate will build practical systems for the company’s current scale while developing the processes and resource plans needed for future growth. The role will manage employees, contractors, consultants, and service providers as the function develops. We are a growing company, and you will be responsible for hiring and interviewing activities as we continue to scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality assurance, quality systems, manufacturing, industrial technology, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and directly applicable experience.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible manufacturing-quality experience, including quality systems, product and process quality, supplier quality, non conformance, corrective action, and audit responsibilities.
  • 3+ years leading employees, cross-functional programs, contractors, or external service providers.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing or maintaining an ISO 9001 quality management system and supporting certification or surveillance audits.
  • Demonstrated experience with supplier APQP and PPAP, including PFMEAs, control plans, measurement-system analysis, process-capability studies, first-article or production-trial evidence, and supplier submissions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or administering environmental, health, and safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including regulatory compliance, hazard assessment, incident investigation, training, and record-keeping.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, standards, and regulatory obligations.
  • Strong project-management, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to combine hands-on execution with functional leadership in a growing organization.
  • Experience with ERP or electronic quality-management systems and digital document-control tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, energy, aerospace, industrial, or rotating-equipment products.
  • Experience supporting new-product introduction, manufacturing scale-up, factory startup, relocation, or contract manufacturing.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 management-system principles.
  • Quality certification such as ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence, Certified Quality Engineer, or Certified Quality Auditor is preferred.
  • EHS certification such as Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist is also valued.
  • Experience with environmental permits, hazardous-material and waste programs, industrial hygiene, emergency response, or contractor safety.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an effective quality management system aligned with ISO 9001, customer requirements, applicable regulations, and company needs.
  • Maintain ISO 9001 certification and surveillance activities, including internal audits, management reviews, quality objectives, corrective actions, document control, and certification-body coordination.
  • Establish inspection, acceptance, non conformance, material-review, corrective-action, change-control, and calibration practices for incoming, in-process, and finished product.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the organization on design reviews, production readiness, process-risk assessments, control plans, first-article activities, measurement methods, and process validation.
  • Own supplier and customer quality including, APQP and PPAP programs, audits, supplier-quality planning, qualification, phase-gate reviews, submission approval, performance monitoring, corrective actions, and improvement in collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Program Management, and suppliers.
  • Develop, monitor, and continuously improve EHS programs covering environmental protection, occupational health, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance at local, state and federal levels
  • Lead hazard identification and risk assessments, including job hazard analyses, ergonomics, chemical safety, machine guarding, electrical safety, lockout/tag out, personal protective equipment, contractor safety, and safe work practices.
  • Establish emergency-preparedness and response programs, including evacuation, fire and life safety, spill response, first-aid coordination, and drills.
  • Oversee hazardous-material and waste practices, including chemical inventories, safety data sheets, labeling, storage, handling, disposal, and required records.
  • Develop and deliver quality and EHS training and maintain required competency and training records.
  • Partner with the designated product-compliance owner on UL, CSA, CE, EMC, and other product-certification activities by supporting configuration control, records, production conformity, supplier controls, corrective actions, and certification-related audits.
