About The Position

Novolex is a leading manufacturer of food, beverage, and specialty packaging that supports multiple industries. The company's sustainability vision is built upon three pillars: products, operations, and people. The Quality Director is responsible for driving quality strategy and execution across a complex, multi-site business unit. This role provides strategic oversight of quality management systems, customer quality performance, and food safety compliance across 3–5 operating units and up to 40 facilities. The leader partners closely with customers, operations, and New Product Development to ensure consistent product quality, continuous improvement, and support for business growth while leading and influencing plant and corporate quality teams under a unified One Quality approach.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree is required, technical field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a quality management role in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the plastics, paper, or packaging industry is required.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience as a quality manager or other senior leader preferably in the rigid or flexible poly industry or in food contact packaging.
  • Minimum 4 years working with internal and external customers.
  • Displays excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic, and flexible team-based environment.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in direct performance management of operations employees and strong leadership abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects under tight timelines; works with a sense of urgency.
  • Analysis, critical thinking, good judgment, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the company and enjoys a fast-paced environment.
  • Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies and control plans.
  • Strong leadership experience with compliance program requirements such as food safety, SQF, BRCGS, HACCP, forestry, and sustainability programs, including experience with internal and external auditing.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes quality-related strategic plans to support the organization’s objectives and goals.
  • Plans, coordinates, and provides high level oversight of quality management systems to ensure quality production across all plants consistent with established specifications and standards.
  • Interfaces directly with customers and develops close working relationships to effectively manage quality issues for existing business and to support business growth in close partnership with strategic customers and New Product Development.
  • Keeps management teams abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality-related investigations, audits, or improvement activities.
  • Establishes and oversees customer scorecard tracking metrics including development and oversight of corrective/preventative action systems across all plants.
  • Ensures uniform product specifications, quality assurance methodologies, and statistical process control (SPC) run rules are in use across the businesses and plants.
  • Develops and reports quality KPI information to key stakeholders.
  • Applies SPC, six sigma, and lean manufacturing methods to evaluate and improve the current quality systems and processes.
  • Provides strategic guidance and oversight through direct performance management of Corporate Quality Managers in the business unit [BU].
  • Responsible to support a business unit consisting of 3 to 5 operating units (having 6 to 8 facilities each).
  • Leads BU plant quality resources through influence and supports One Novolex Quality Team.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of quality training programs to key personnel in conjunction with corporate and plant quality resources.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards, including food safety.
  • Ensures corporate wide, continuous compliance with government, customer, and third-party food safety certification requirements, including on-site audits.
