About The Position

The Quality Control Technician will be responsible for overseeing the quality of the product being packed on all lines of production during their shift. It is the duty of QC personnel to inform Production Shift Supervisors and/or Manager of any discrepancy during packing to improve or correct the quality of the product. Responsible for sorting and inspecting walnuts during the production process at GDN, and GDN In Shell.

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize jobs.
  • Ability to work on many different projects at one time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as needed.
  • Accurately complete documents and paperwork related to the job.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Punctual and good attendance is necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Quality Control experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily HACCP inspections to ensure correct task performance.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections of processing equipment.
  • Perform ATP Swab tests at the beginning of shifts and during allergen changeovers.
  • Conduct oxygen level tests as required by work instructions.
  • Perform weight checks of product and controlled weights.
  • Conduct employee/staff GMP inspections at the beginning of the shift.
  • Inspect production packing lines at the beginning of shifts and during product changes to ensure quality. Identify and report any excessive defects or discrepancies to production personnel immediately.
  • Verify production labels for accuracy of dates, product, and customer information. Confirm customer specifications for labels at the beginning of each order.
  • Perform cracker tests by sampling shelled product to determine the percentage of halves produced, assess if the percentage is normal, and notify the supervisor of any concerns.
  • Conduct quality tests by hand sorting samples at determined frequencies, collecting and weighing defects, and recording findings electronically and in the QC log. Inform production and WC personnel of significant findings.
  • Verify DFA paperwork at the end of each shift for accuracy and notify the supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Collect, weigh, and record defects from reject buckets at the end of each order.
  • Sample product from packing lines to determine color percentage and ensure it is within customer specifications or GDN standards. Notify supervisor of any off-color product.
  • Evaluate overall production quality, including boxes, liner, tape, BHT, weight, labels, and sanitation.
  • Assist in clean up as needed.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to established Grower Direct Nut Co., local, state, and federal regulations and requirements, as well as food safety, sanitation, food production, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to procedures and standards that align with regulations, requirements, and guidelines.
  • Assist other departments with reasonable and related tasks.
