About The Position

The position is responsible for safely collecting and testing samples of various materials to ensure they meet specifications, with other duties assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Maintain proper certifications, licensure, and acceptable driving record (where applicable).
  • Able to operate testing machines and equipment such as a nuclear densometer.
  • High ethical and moral standards.

Responsibilities

  • Tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in the production process and tests products for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Performs necessary tests (i.e., gradations, incinerations, rice tests, marshall tests, % crushed, etc.) testing products for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • May weigh, dry, and reweigh samples to determine moisture content.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • May plot the origin of samples on a site map.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • May prepare graphs or charts of data or enter data into a computer for analysis.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within the limits of equipment capability.
  • May set up and perform destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
  • Examines samples for the presence of foreign matter and variation from color standards.
  • Notifies management when materials do not meet specifications.
  • Maintains lab and equipment; performs daily housekeeping.
  • Conducts finished and in-process inspections.
  • Performs concrete trial batches.
  • Communicates effectively (verbal, listening, written) and works with difficult people under high-stress situations.
  • Acts as a self-motivated team player with good interpersonal skills; maintains positive customer relations and acts courteously and respectfully of others.
  • Communicates test results to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ensures work activities comply with OSHA, EPA, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Travel is required.
  • Gathers samples from specified locations and transports samples to the laboratory.
  • Always works safely and takes action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Maintains the highest level of moral and ethical standards at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
