Position Summary The Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing laboratory testing and inspections of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure products meet established quality standards and customer specifications. This position works closely with Quality, Production, Research & Development, and other departments to identify quality issues, investigate deviations, and support continuous improvement. The Quality Control Technician must demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound judgment, accurate documentation, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment involving dyes, paints, pigments, and related chemical products.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory, quality control, manufacturing, or chemical-processing environment preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and standardized testing methods.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to accurately enter and retrieve data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Production, Quality, and other departments.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple samples or testing requests.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as required by customer and business demands.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine physical, chemical, and instrumental testing of raw materials, in-process batches, and finished products.
  • Perform color evaluations and comparisons using appropriate laboratory methods and instrumentation.
  • Conduct testing such as viscosity, pH, solids, density, grind, particle size, moisture, strength, tint, color, and other applicable product characteristics.
  • Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments according to established procedures.
  • Communicate test results to Production and Quality personnel in a timely manner.
  • Assist Production with troubleshooting quality issues and identifying potential causes of product variation.
  • Support batch adjustments and rework activities when directed by Quality or Production leadership.
  • Place material on hold when test results do not meet established specifications and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Support investigations of nonconforming materials and products.
  • Accurately record laboratory test results in the appropriate laboratory, quality, or ERP systems.
  • Support preparation of quality reports, certificates of analysis, and other quality documentation as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of customer and product information.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Properly handle, label, store, and dispose of chemicals and laboratory materials.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow applicable SDS, chemical handling, spill response, and waste disposal procedures.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, spills, incidents, or exposures to appropriate leadership.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in the laboratory and surrounding work areas.
