About The Position

This full-time, non-exempt position is based in New Carlisle, IN and reports to the Quality Control Manager. This individual is responsible for testing bare and painted coils for conformance to established quality parameters. This role requires independent judgment and real-time decision-making to maintain product quality during production. The Quality Control Technician is expected to understand specification requirements and take appropriate action to ensure all materials remain within acceptable standards. This is a position with working hours of 04:00 am/pm – 04:00 am/pm, and is on a 2-2-3 schedule. As a member of EDCOAT, LLC’s production team, the Quality Control Technician will be accountable for complying with all applicable company standards and government regulations. Success will be defined by the employee’s ability to ensure the quality and consistency of paint and metal used in the coil coating process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • Previous manufacturing experience required.
  • Chemistry: Chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and related processes.
  • English Language: Structure, content, meaning, and spelling of words, and grammar.
  • Mathematics: Arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
  • Attention to Detail: Being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to interpret test data (ASTM, color, and visual standards), understand acceptable tolerances, and make timely, effective decisions to adjust process conditions and maintain product quality.
  • Cooperation: Being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude.
  • Dependability: Being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting and testing samples including from raw materials, work-in-process, pre-shipments, and finished products to determine compliance with customer’s and vendor’s quality standards.
  • Comparing (physically and visually) paint samples to color charts and templates to ensure that products conform to quality standards.
  • Tracking of and accounting for any rejected metals and/or coatings.
  • Gathering and sending samples to interested parties in the event of a claim and/or any other quality issue (metal, paint, color matching and warranty panels, etc.).
  • Monitoring work-in-process product performance against specifications and proactively initiating or recommending adjustments to maintain compliance. Escalating issues to the Quality Control Manager or Paint Line Supervisor when conditions cannot be corrected within acceptable limits.
  • Understanding customer specifications, internal standards, and acceptable quality ranges for each order, and actively monitoring ASTM test results, color, and appearance to ensure compliance. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for making or directing necessary process adjustments (e.g., oven settings, line speed, chemical levels, or application parameters) to maintain product within specification and to prevent the production of nonconforming material.
  • Checking and documenting calibration of measuring devices used in production.
  • Maintaining close contact with production departments concerning all aspects of product quality by inspecting each of the runs for deviations or other problems to reduce or eliminate the production of substandard product.
  • Taking care of wet section tanks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
