About The Position

MAC is seeking an experienced, full-time Quality Control (QC) Supervisor to oversee on-site quality management for the MassDOT Ware River Secondary Track & ROW Rehabilitation Project. This is a hands-on, on-site leadership role — the QC Supervisor's sole responsibility is quality management, and work cannot proceed on this project without a Quality Supervisor present on-site.

Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience implementing a quality control program on construction projects of similar size, scope, and complexity (rail/track construction preferred).
  • Thorough working knowledge of Title 49 CFR Part 213 Track Safety Standards, Subparts A–F.
  • Demonstrated technical competence in track installation, restoration, and renewal.
  • Successful completion of Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) training and qualification (or ability to obtain prior to project start).
  • Ability to work full-time, on-site, for all hours of an assigned shift.
  • Strong working knowledge of AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering and AREMA Portfolio of Trackwork Plans.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to act independently and with authority to enforce quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience on MassDOT or other state DOT rail/transit projects.
  • Familiarity with developing and administering a written Quality Assurance Program (QAP).
  • Experience auditing subcontractors, fabricators, and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site, full-time Quality Supervisor for all working hours on assigned shift(s); no field work may proceed without a Quality Supervisor present.
  • Manage and implement the Contractor's Quality Program and Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for the duration of the project.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce the project-specific Quality Control Plan, ensuring it meets or exceeds MassDOT and Contract Document requirements.
  • Perform quality control and field quality control activities in accordance with the project's Special Provisions.
  • Audit the work of subcontractors, fabricators, and suppliers to ensure compliance with the QAP.
  • Verify track construction tolerances comply with Item 492.8.1 (Surface and Align – New Line, Surface, Tamp & Dress Track and Turnouts) and Item 492.8.2 (Surface and Align – Resurface Track).
  • Ensure all trackwork construction and materials conform to the current AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering and AREMA Portfolio of Trackwork Plans, except as modified by the Special Provisions or Contract Documents.
  • Supervise quality of the installation, restoration, and renewal of tracks.
  • Maintain and apply thorough knowledge of Title 49 CFR Part 213 Track Safety Standards, Subparts A–F.
  • Complete and maintain required inspection forms and documentation equal to or more detailed than those specified in the project's Special Provisions.
  • Support submission of the QAP and required documentation within 30 days of contract award, including resumes/qualifications and evidence of Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) training and qualification.
  • Exercise independent, unbiased technical judgment and hold the authority to make quality-related decisions free from outside pressure.
