About The Position

The Weitz Company is seeking an experienced traveling Quality Control Manager for Industrial projects, with a preference for Power Generation experience. This role is responsible for implementing and managing the project Quality Control Program, providing direction and leadership. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of construction QC/QA experience.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven history of leading others successfully and the ability to teach, develop, and mentor others.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • Excellent leadership skills with a desire to mentor, coach, and develop a team.
  • Ability to compare and analyze various systems and related cost impacts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize projects with impending deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Business acumen and relationship building skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Apple products (iPhone & iPad).
  • Ability to learn specific software.
  • Must be willing to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Power Generation experience preferred.
  • Solid systems experience with Procore and Bluebeam is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the commissioning process, including the startup plan, commissioning schedule, and functional testing.
  • Oversee the inspection process during commissioning to ensure timely delivery and adherence to customer expectations and specifications.
  • Lead all project closeout activities, including operations and maintenance manuals, model turnover, and training.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with the owner and on-site representative.
  • Resolve site commissioning issues and concerns raised by the customer.
  • Participate in factory witness testing as applicable.
  • Manage and implement the QC Program.
  • Ensure testing is performed and provide required QC certifications and documentation.
  • Manage and coordinate the three phases of control and documentation performed by testing laboratory personnel and other required inspection and testing personnel.
  • Organize mutual understanding meetings with the owner and subcontractors.
  • Conduct weekly QC meetings with the owner and project team.
  • Participate in weekly subcontractor meetings with the project team.
  • Implement methods for monitoring work activities, such as the three phases of control and daily progress reports, to inform the project manager and/or superintendent of the current status of work activity.
  • Coordinate and participate in pre-installation conferences with subcontractors.
  • Coordinate follow-up inspections through intermediate QC personnel.
  • Document all quality inspections and pre-installation meetings.
  • Manage and coordinate QC Specialists, Testing Laboratory personnel, and other inspection and testing personnel.
  • Review submittals for accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Ensure the shop drawing and submittal review and approval process is effective and efficient.
  • Communicate with the owner, project manager, superintendent, and subcontractors to gather quality information for improvement and address quality concerns.
