About The Position

The Quality Control Laboratory Supervisor is a key leader within the Quality Control (QC) organization, responsible for ensuring that all analytical testing, data review, and laboratory operations meet the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and scientific excellence. This role champions a culture of quality, drives operational efficiency, and empowers a team of skilled analysts to deliver reliable results that support safe, effective, and compliant products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or related scientific discipline.
  • 6 years of relevant laboratory experience in a GMP or regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership or professional supervisory experience within a QC or analytical laboratory.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, wet chemistry, and microbiological methods.
  • Proficiency with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPAs).
  • Strong understanding of GMP, data integrity expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication, leadership, process development, training, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to scientific accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, manage priorities, and lead teams through complex workflows.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate issues and drive solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an FDA-regulated environment.
  • Experience with NSF audits and standards.
  • Experience with ERP, SPC systems, and/or familiarity with SPC tools.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily QC laboratory operations, ensuring testing is executed according to approved methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and good manufacturing practice (GMP) requirements.
  • Create and maintain a forecast for pending testing.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of raw material, in process, finished product, and stability testing.
  • Oversee qualification of new items including raw materials and finished products.
  • Review and approve analytical data, ensuring integrity, traceability, and compliance with ALCOA+ principles.
  • Maintain a state of inspection-readiness across the laboratory, including documentation, housekeeping, and equipment status.
  • Lead troubleshooting of analytical methods, instrumentation, and unexpected results (OOS), collaborating with cross functional partners as needed.
  • Oversee qualification, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment to ensure reliable performance.
  • Support and lead investigations, deviations, CAPAs, and change controls with scientifically sound root cause analysis and clear documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and strengthen quality systems.
  • Ensure all laboratory personnel are trained, qualified, and operate safely within established procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation and support of audits.
  • Provide backup support for management as needed.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of analysts, fostering technical growth, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide task direction to team members.
  • Provide on-the-job training (OJT) for new hires (onboarding) and when new methods are transferred.
  • Motivate team to improve productivity.
  • Create and monitor team schedules.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of assigned areas.
  • Listen to team members’ feedback and resolve/report any issues or conflicts.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage individual performance.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards are enforced and met.
