About The Position

Locates pallets of 40lb blocks or 640lb boxes and performs re-samples to verify quality specifications. This role is responsible for pulling down and moving cheese pallets and/or boxes with a forklift, reading and confirming sample information matches product on pallet/block, and following all SOPs with regard to sampling, safety, and general warehouse operations. The technician ensures that all sample requests from the lab are taken accurately and delivered in a timely manner, and also checks sample records and retest records. Additionally, the role involves grading and reporting on the 40lb cheese product, inspecting and repairing packaging, and maintaining a clean working environment. Record keeping in accordance with good manufacturing practices and local/state laws is also a key responsibility. The position utilizes GPS processes, drives zero losses, and upholds the culture of Southwest Cheese non-negotiables. Employees must comply with occupational safety and health standards and all applicable food safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiply projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
  • Should be able to identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Prior forklift experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that all sample requests from the lab are taken accurately and delivered to the lab in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that all re-test sample requests from the lab are taken accurately and delivered to the lab in a timely manner.
  • Checking sample records and sample retest records.
  • Grading and reporting on the 40lb cheese product.
  • Inspecting and repairing (as needed) packaging and any other damage to product.
  • Maintaining a clean working environment by picking up debris, sweeping and mopping floors, washing walls, straightening pallets, and sanitizing sampling area.
  • Keeping records in accordance with good manufacturing process and local and state laws.
  • Utilizing GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholding the culture of Southwest Cheese non-negotiables.
  • Complying with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
