About The Position

Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing field inspections related to LUMA Energy’s Transmission & Distribution infrastructure throughout Puerto Rico. This includes work related to transmission and distribution lines (overhead and underground), substations, telecom, streetlights, customer meters and related vegetation management. The role requires strong technical aptitude, extensive knowledge of electrical utility design and construction practices, excellent problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills. In addition, this position may be subject to rotating on-call and rotating shifts. Possible shift assignments may include morning, evening, night and weekends shifts.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in engineering or technical degree from a recognized Electrical Engineering Technology Program or trade designation such as Power System Electrician or Journeyman Lineman, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience of electrical construction or vegetation inspection or a related field.
  • Familiarity with industry standards.
  • Knowledge of safety practices.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship development skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to work as a team player.
  • Problem solving skills with proven ability to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, Teams, Others).
  • Valid Driver License.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical knowledge in designs associated with electrical and utility codes, constructability, and equipment applications is preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and standards is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the business in the regulated and utility environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge in GIS Platforms (Google Earth and others) is preferred.
  • Fluent in English (being able to read, speak, and write) is preferred.
  • Valid First Aid Certification is preferred.
  • OSHA Certification is preferred.
  • Any operator certification or additional technical qualifications will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the inspection of asset related construction and maintenance work within their areas of qualification to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, codes and LUMA standards.
  • Interact with construction and clearing teams to explain and mitigate quality issues
  • Ensure that all required quality documentation is completed, correct and submitted into the system of record.
  • Document nonconformance of work to standards and re-inspect work after repair as required.
  • Create Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) to track deviations from approved standards and procedures
  • Understand established work procedures and all corporate policies, practices and regulations, as well as all legislative requirements applicable to the work inspected.
  • Responsible for the completion of assigned work and ensuring that the work is of the highest possible quality.
  • Prepare reports summarizing issues, rework, and observations for Quality Management Leadership
  • Work with software applications such as GIS platforms, Google Earth, MS Office, and others.
  • Provide recommendations to address to technical issues that represent the best alternative from the perspective of cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders including customers, contractors and LUMA employees.
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture
  • Perform major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned.
  • Follow all standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
