About The Position

The Quality Control Coordinator is responsible for maintaining product quality, freshness, food safety, and presentation standards across designated fresh categories including produce, meat, seafood, deli, dairy and frozen. This role ensures that all perishable products meet company standards for freshness, cleanliness, expiration control, and customer satisfaction while minimizing waste and supporting daily store operations.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum two to three years of work experience in a supermarket environment preferred.
  • Previous food handling experience preferred.
  • Customer service experience in a similar or comparable work environment.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business data and effectively respond to the data.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from vendors, customers, employees, or others involved or associated in the warehouse section function.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts relevant to the role such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • General knowledge of basic accounting a plus.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledgeable in use of computer software applications customarily used in the job function at an appropriate proficiency level.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily freshness and quality inspections for all perishable departments.
  • Monitor expiration dates, product rotation, and FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
  • Identify and remove damaged, expired, spoiled, or non-compliant products from the sales floor and backroom.
  • Verify product temperatures and ensure cold chain compliance for refrigerated and frozen items.
  • Perform quality checks on incoming deliveries and report issues with vendors or receiving conditions.
  • Support market-down and sell-through activities to reduce waste and improve inventory turnover.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards are maintained in shop floor displays, storage areas, and preparation spaces.
  • Monitor display conditions including facing, stocking levels, product presentation, and freshness appearance.
  • Maintain accurate records related to quality inspections, temperature logs, waste tracking, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with fresh departments regarding product quality concerns, recalls, or urgent corrective actions.
  • Assist with implementation and compliance of food safety policies, SOPs, and company quality standards.
  • Report recurring quality issues, shrink concerns, and operational risks to management.
  • Support inventory control and stock organization for perishable goods.
  • Participate in store audits, inspections, and operational improvement activities.
