About The Position

The primary function of a Quality Control Chemist is to assess and render a disposition on the quality of the fragrances/ingredients produced and received in the facility.

Requirements

  • College Degree with 2+ years’ experience in Quality Control environment.
  • Competency using computer with knowledge and experience using word processing, Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge in using GC software programs, i.e. Chemstation, OpenLab, MassHunter.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on Gas Chromatograph and Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer.
  • Capability of performing investigative work using instrumentation to identify adulteration in essential oils and to solve technical problems should they arise.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as: Densitometer, Refractometer, Colorimeter, Polarimeter, Gas Chromatograph and Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer.
  • Strong understanding of wet chemistry practices which include titrations, standard preparation and blending of lab batches.
  • Possibility of performing substitutions of different raw materials in production batches.
  • Must pass an organoleptic proficiency test with a score of at least 80.0% or better.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform day to day tasks with limited supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Chemistry, Biology, etc. (Preferred degree)
  • Previous color work experience is a plus.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing using instruments such as: Densitometer, Refractometer, Colorimeter and Polarimeter.
  • Strong understanding of Gas Chromatograph and Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer fundamentals.
  • Perform organoleptic evaluations to render as disposition.
  • Maintain Lab Management system. Recording and reporting analytical results. Updating various other systems as per procedure.
  • Investigates non-conformances. Compiles and analyzes test information to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Communicates technical information to both internal and external customers Quality Control services.
  • Ability to provide information or documentation when requested i.e. Specifications, Certificate of Analysis.
  • Maintain laboratory. Required to clean and organize work area.
  • Maintain lab equipment. Validate instruments as required by procedure and ensure that instruments are routinely cleaned.
  • Understand and execute all necessary requirements for ISO 9001.
  • Remain accountable for all defined responsibilities as defined by ISO 9001 process flows.
