About The Position

Skjodt-Barrett is seeking a QA Technician to join their team during a period of growth. Reporting to the QA Supervisor, this role is crucial for ensuring the highest product quality through analytical testing and production floor quality analysis. The technician will oversee product testing from raw ingredients to final batch sampling, ensuring all products meet specifications. The position involves collaborating with the manufacturing team to optimize processes and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards. This is a full-time, permanent night shift role, Monday through Friday, 11 PM - 7 AM, with occasional overtime.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field, or equivalent experience in a relevant food science role.
  • Practical quality assurance experience, ideally within a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
  • Comfortable alternating between the lab and production floor.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply scientific standards, measurements, processes, and results.
  • Understanding of basic addition and subtraction, and ability to accurately measure and interpret temperature and weight data.
  • Familiarity with quality control, lab testing, sensory testing, and manufacturing processes, particularly in food production environments.
  • Naturally curious, proactive, and bring strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and work collaboratively with production teams to implement solutions.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and excel at planning.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain sample integrity by collecting, evaluating, and managing retain samples, including pallet preparation, documentation, and electronic logging.
  • Collect, prepare, document, and submit microbiological samples to external laboratories according to established schedules and protocols.
  • Support food safety verification programs through ATP, allergen, environmental, and water sample collection.
  • Evaluate, test, and release raw materials to confirm compliance with food safety and quality specifications prior to use.
  • Verify and document critical processing parameters across batching, filling, and post-pasteurization systems by reviewing displays, chart recorders, work instructions, and retention times, and signing off on approved processing parameter check sheets.
  • Conduct in-process and finished product testing to support timely product release, including Vitamin C, malic acid and %TA titration and adjustments; Brix, pH, viscosity, Bostwick, USDA flow; texture analysis; water activity; spread and bake testing; density determination; inversion; torque, compression, and tensile testing; and sensory evaluations.
  • Verify packaging and labeling accuracy through weight checks, package integrity checks, metal detector validation, and product coding verification.
  • Support sanitation and allergen control programs by maintaining SSOP boards and executing post-sanitation validations, including allergen swabbing (Neogen).
  • Monitor production areas to ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Complete and maintain required quality and food safety records, including sanitation logs, calibration records, glass and brittle plastic audits, light intensity checks, water/air/steam monitoring, and NC hold documentation.
  • Initiate, investigate, and document non-conformances (NCRs), communicate findings to QA leadership, and support root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Prepare and release Certificates of Analysis (COAs), collect samples for Sales, Product Development, and external partners, and inspect and release NC holds.
  • Support effective shift-to-shift communication by sharing critical quality and production information to maintain continuity and alignment across teams.
