About The Position

The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that airport lighting hardware and related components meet all applicable quality, safety, and regulatory requirements prior to shipment. This role performs detailed inspections throughout the manufacturing process, verifies conformance to engineering drawings and specifications, and supports continuous improvement efforts in a safety-critical manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment; electrical or electromechanical product experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and multimeters.
  • Basic understanding of quality systems and inspection methodologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects or deviations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including use of inspection forms and quality databases.
  • Familiarity with FAA standards related to airport lighting or similar regulated products helpful.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis or supporting corrective actions desired.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming materials, in-process assemblies, and finished airport lighting hardware to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Perform visual, mechanical, and dimensional inspections using calibrated measuring and test equipment.
  • Verify proper assembly of electrical and mechanical components, including housings, wiring, weld seals, and mounting hardware.
  • Review work orders, bills of materials, and production documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify, document, and report nonconforming materials or products in accordance with company procedures.
  • Initiate and support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) by providing inspection data and observations.
  • Conduct monthly internal audits of our inspection failure rate.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, test results, and quality documentation in paper and/or electronic systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable FAA standards, customer specifications, and internal quality system requirements (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and quality to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence and reduce scrap and other errors.
  • Verify and renew calibration status of inspection instruments and test equipment.
  • Support audits (internal, customer, or regulatory) by providing documentation and inspection evidence.
  • Promote and follow all safety policies, procedures, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
