About The Position

Inside the Role Quality Assurance at Detroit Diesel ensures our heavy duty powertrain machining processes consistently produce parts that meet our quality standards. As a Quality Assurance Engineer, you will work closely with production and engineering teams to monitor production process data, identify emerging issues, and support effective root cause analysis. You will be coached on how to develop, modify, and maintain quality control systems and protocols for machining operations, and perform quality assurance testing to evaluate process capability and manage product quality risks. Your role also includes verifying that corrective actions and deviations meet reliability and compliance requirements. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn about powertrain machining and contribute to Daimler Truck North America’s leadership in heavy duty transportation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field from an accredited institution
  • Experience or classes involving measurement systems and statistical analysis
  • Basic knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) analysis and capability studies (Cp/Cpk)
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team
  • Experience using office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Basic knowledge of process documentation and how they are used – Control Plans, Work Instructions, PFMEA, etc.
  • Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret component and assembly drawings
  • Excellent Interpersonal communication abilities
  • Experience in presenting complex technical topics to audiences with varied technical knowledge
  • Be able to travel domestically in support of projects (less than 5%)
  • Be able to work on weekends as required to support production

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with hourly union personnel
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing with experience or completion of a course
  • Experience using 3D modelling software
  • Experience with Statistical Analysis software to calculate equipment capabilities (Cmk and Cpk)
  • Ability to interpret and understand Geometric and Dimensional Tooling (GD&T) callouts on a print
  • Experience in applying Quality Engineering principles in machining environments
  • Experience using measurement equipment to verify dimensions (calipers, micrometers, height gages, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems/protocols for machining lines
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment in current production or for future production lines
  • Conducts quality assurance tests and performing statistical analysis to assess the level of control and manage product quality risks
  • Undertakes root cause analysis of incidents requiring corrective action
  • Ensures that corrective measures and deviation meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements
  • Effectively work with hourly and skilled trades union workers
  • Perform special projects as required
  • Must be able to provide management with regular reports / updates as required
  • Must be able to professionally represent the Quality organization to other organizations on site or to the global Quality team
