About The Position

The Quality and Continuous Improvement Engineer will be responsible for the effective control of quality within the Plant's operations. This includes regulating product conformance, and evaluating and improving manufacturing and supplier quality performance. The role involves providing and maintaining measures of the Plant's quality performance, establishing quality performance goals, and taking action when goals are exceeded. The engineer will define and maintain the system, policy, and procedures for quality control, conduct audits of the Quality Assurance system, and ensure adherence to these by all functions. They will also be involved in the development of product quality and reliability, defining product quality characteristics, control points, inspection methods, and feedback mechanisms for purchased and manufactured materials. The position requires evaluation and control of product and process quality through inspection, managing nonconforming material, identifying corrective action needs, and ensuring the accuracy of measuring equipment. Additionally, the role involves supporting the ISO 9001 certification program, participating in internal audits, assisting with recertification, developing work instructions, supporting supplier performance reviews, documenting floor complaints, issuing NCMRs and CARs, following up on corrective actions, auditing key vendors, participating in new product development, attending PLMT meetings, researching new processes, and collaborating with Value Stream Engineers on standard work development, improvements, and training. The engineer will also develop Cpk and process control plans, potentially including FMEA and PPAP documents, and ensure compliance with all Plant Environmental, Health and Safety policies and regulatory requirements. Facilitation of kaizen events and other lean initiatives, workplace audits, and process streaming are also key responsibilities. The role utilizes knowledge of value stream analysis, project management, data collection and analysis, and process improvement implementation to drive change, and requires the creation of work instructions, reports, and presentations using accurate data.

Requirements

  • 4 year college degree
  • 3+ years of related Quality experience
  • 1+ years of related Continuous Improvement experience
  • PC knowledge/computer literate
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of quality function, lean manufacturing, ISO requirements
  • Independent worker (must be able to assign and complete assignments independently)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Familiarity with inspection procedures
  • Understanding and support of Company policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provides and maintains measures of the Plant's quality performance in terms of quality costs, customer returns and complaints, product conformance, and manufacturing and supplier performance.
  • Establishes quality performance goals and reports and takes action when goals are exceeded.
  • Defines the system, policy, and procedures for the control of quality in and for the Plant and regularly determines adherence to these by all functions.
  • Conducts audits of the Plant Quality Assurance system, including adequacy of records, effectiveness of procedures and performance of personnel.
  • Provides for the development of product quality and reliability, and the definition of product quality characteristics, control points, inspection for conformance, means of determination, records and feedback for purchased and manufactured materials, parts and products.
  • Provides for the evaluation and control of product and process quality through: inspection for conformance to requirements of purchased material and parts, work-in-process, finished goods, packaging and labeling; controls disposition and costs on nonconforming material; identifying corrective action needs; assurance of gages, measuring and test equipment accuracy.
  • Recommends department organization, expense and capital, long-range plans and budget needs, and operates the department within approved budget.
  • Support ISO 9001 certification program.
  • Participate with internal ISO audits to monitor compliance.
  • Assist with recertification during Registrar visits.
  • Develop and maintain work instructions per ISO requirements.
  • Assist with Supplier Performance Reviews.
  • Document floor complaints.
  • Issue NCMRs and CARs as needed.
  • Follow up with correctives actions to insure compliance.
  • Audit key vendors as necessary.
  • Participate In New Product Development.
  • Attend PLMT meetings.
  • Research new processes as directed.
  • Collaborate with Value Stream Engineers on Standard Work Development, Improvements and Training.
  • Develop Cpk and process control plans for new products. May require FMEA and PPAP documents.
  • Compliance to all Plant Environmental, Health and Safety policies and Environmental and OSHA regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitates kaizen events and other lean initiatives such as 5’s, one-piece flow, standardized work, Kanban.
  • Performs workplace audits and streaming processes within area of responsibility.
  • Utilizes knowledge of value stream analysis; project management; data collection and analysis; and development and implementation of process improvements to drive change.
  • Creates work instructions, reports, and presentations using accurate data to drive continuous improvement.
