About The Position

This role requires thorough knowledge of Certified Nursing Aide/Qualified Medication Aide principles and procedures, with an understanding of the concepts of aging and the needs of the elderly population. The position involves knowledge of state and federal health regulations, clinical standards of nursing practice, and delivery systems, including cost containment. Key responsibilities include performing comprehensive medication passes, providing basic care based on resident needs, and communicating effectively with healthcare professionals and support staff. The role requires the ability to work under varying degrees of supervision and to maintain a positive professional image to enhance public relations for the facility.

Requirements

• Licensed Qualified Medication Aide with current license to practice in the State of Indiana, in good standing.
• At least two years in CNA role.
• Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist and reach to the floor.
• Prepare/administer medications and adjusting flow rates and use medical equipment.
• Pushes/pulls medication/ treatment carts weighing 100 pounds a distance of 600 feet.
• Must be able to clearly speak at a volume adaptable to the hearing impaired.
• Lifts and carries equipment weighing 25 pounds.
• Must be able to hear normal volume sounds and voice patterns with constant background noise.
• Must be able to hear lung, bowel and blood pressure sounds with appropriate diagnostic instruments.
• Must be able to receive and follow verbal and written instruction.
• Must be able to assess changes in resident conditions.
• Must be able to smell smoke, spoiled foods, incontinent residents, etc.
• Must be able to respond to audible emergency signals, alarms, call lights and telephones.
• Must be able to read regular/small size print in multiple colors.
• Must possess skills for continuous handling, fingering and feeling required for palpation, operating and maintaining equipment and providing medical treatments, i.e. resident care and medication/treatment administration.
• Must be able to remember multiple assignments over an extended period of time.
• Must be able to remember data derived from assessments and document, review, specific requests, ideas and concepts and relate them as necessary.
• Must be able to concentrate on details during constant interruptions.

Nice To Haves

• Prefer at least two years geriatric or long-term care experience.

Responsibilities

• Organize, Supervise, Provide and Evaluate Resident Care: Conduct walking rounds, assure care is provided and documented, notify physicians of significant changes, supervise dining activities, and ensure completion of documentation.
• Assist with Safety Assurance for Residents and Nursing Staff: Practice safe body mechanics, monitor environmental factors, ensure adherence to safety policies and MSDS practices, maintain a safe work area, initiate accident/incident reports, and incorporate safety precautions into care plans.
• Know and Enforce State and Federal Regulations and Guidelines: Inform Director of Nursing about staffing issues, report unusual occurrences, participate in surveys, function in alternate staff positions as needed, and complete timely reports.
• Administers Medications and Treatments: Adhere to clinical practice guidelines, follow facility policies, use good judgment in withholding medications, notify supervisor of changes in medical regimen, and document according to policy.
• Know and Support Facility Philosophy, Standards, Policies and procedures: Use written policies and procedures, ensure staff awareness and use of policies, and monitor staff adherence.
• Promote Constructive Working Relationships between Health Care Disciplines: Attend staff meetings, communicate with department heads, and meet with staff to exchange information and address issues.
• Promote Favorable Public Relations: Present a professional appearance and serve as a role model, and resolve grievances with supervisor or Director of Nursing.
• Exhibit Professional Nursing and Leadership: Maintain knowledge of scope of practice, encourage innovative methods for care delivery, seek personal and professional growth opportunities, and display a courteous and cooperative manner.
• Perform Related Tasks as Required: Attend management meetings, follow lines of communication and authority, and ensure resident rights are maintained.
