The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is responsible for assisting in the administration of medications to residents as ordered by their physician, under the supervision of the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services. This role operates within established nursing standards and facility policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school education or its equivalent.
  • Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant with a current Indiana License.
  • Licensed Certified Medication Aide having successfully completed a state-approved training program and any necessary examination(s) in accordance with state laws.

  • Previous experience working with long-term care residents.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Ensure medication administration is in accordance with established nursing standards, facility policies, procedures, and practices, and state requirements.
  • Note and report errors in the administration of medications.
  • Complete necessary forms, charts, and reports as required.
  • Maintain a friendly, productive working relationship with other members of the department of nursing, attending physicians, the Medical Director, and pharmacists.
  • Report any resident complaints or grievances to the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Participate and cooperate with facility surveys and inspections by authorized government agencies.
  • Adhere to policies regarding assigned user ID code and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected violations.
  • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected violations.
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempts to access the facility’s information system.
