About The Position

North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA), based in Dallas, is responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for children, adolescents, and adults with severe mental illness and other serious emotional disturbances, as well as those experiencing a substance use disorder. This position's actions and work must align with NTBHA values and goals, regulations, and policies and procedures, and meet all documentation standards and regulatory requirements. NTBHA is seeking a person with excellent organizational and person-centered skills to provide continuity of care work through the NTBHA Regional Operations Department. The purpose of QMHP is to assist with day-to-day care for individuals at the State Hospital Step Down facility. The QMHP assists with the goals and objectives for each individual to effectively connect individuals with mental illness and/or a co-occurring disorder transitioning from the hospital step down program to the community. This position is based out of Scurry, Texas, approximately 35 miles southeast of Dallas. The QMHP will participate in functional skills groups at the direction of the Program Manager according to the Daily Schedule. At the direction of the Program Manager, the QMHP will assist with the individual treatment plans for recovery. Work can include coordination and linkage activities to community-based services, including medical, employment, social, educational, financial, and other appropriate supports that are consistent with the individual’s recovery goals. This position will provide functional skills training while individuals transition to the community. The QMHP collaborates with team members as needed and works effectively with internal departments, community agencies and organizations. Requires cellular availability during shift and flexibility with schedules. Responsible for adherence to and compliance with NTBHA policies and procedures and state regularity codes. We are responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for individuals in crisis in the NTBHA service area. We are focused on trauma-informed, resilience-oriented care in all services provided.

Requirements

  • Degree must be in a social, behavioral, or human services field.
  • Must meet TAC criteria for a QMHP (Qualified Mental Health Professional).
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in sociology, social work, psychology, counseling, or other TAC-approved major.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and vehicle liability insurance.
  • Experience with direct care of persons with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders.
  • Experience participating as a member of a treatment team that develops and monitors treatment plans for persons with chronic and serious mental illness.
  • Must pass and maintain a clear background record as required for healthcare organizations under state and federal contracts.
  • Must be able to work on and have knowledge of a PC (personal computer).
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., with an ability to become familiar with company-specific programs and software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in psychiatric crisis service settings.
  • Understanding of and experience with HHSC programming and systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in functional skills groups at the direction of the Program Manager.

  • Work independently and provide clear and concise documentation.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely, legible manner.
  • Transport individuals and/or assist with finding transportation.
  • Accompany individuals as they transition to community integration and continue the process toward their recovery goals.
  • Provide support to individuals in the development of coping skills.
  • Interact with all individuals throughout shift.
  • Develop a working knowledge of housing options and community resources.
  • Notify Nursing Staff and Supervisor in the event of a crisis.
  • Participate in the admission process as directed and orient the individual to the State Hospital Stepdown House program and guidelines.
  • Inform the Program Manager of significant interactions with individuals and be informed on when and how to complete an incident report if needed.
  • Assist in verbal de-escalation as needed.
  • Adjust to changing situations and work assignments.
  • Utilize a non-judgmental approach, effective listening, and positive interactions with individuals.
  • Work autonomously and make decisions consistent with applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain records, files, documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Recognize problems and identify and facilitate solutions.
  • Communicate effectively and use effective interpersonal skills to communicate ideas and complex concepts with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds through oral and written communication.
  • Constructively and efficiently work with other professionals and staff, community representatives, persons with disabilities, and family members.
