About The Position

As a QC Technician, you will have a key role on the leadership team which includes Production Supervisors, Superintendents and Managers. In this role you will assist operators with the manufacturing of the highest quality plywood and lumber in North America. QC technicians act as the product ambassadors, ensuring that the products meet specifications according to the APA and PLIB (Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau) and are meeting all customer requirements. You will interact daily with operators, customers, distributers, certifiers (APA/PLIB), and members of the sales and management team to ensure the quality of all our products. QC technicians monitor and record product quality, conduct audits of final products, and conduct grade inspections. You will be challenged with opportunities to build upon your strengths with understanding optimization and size checks though out the manufacturing of lumber and plywood. You will be continually challenged to deepen your knowledge and expertise in lumber grades, panel grades, veneer thickness, product mix, and technical manufacturing specs. Understand the manufacturing of wood products to be able read product defects to understand what machine center made a particular board. As a QC Technician you will have the opportunity to : Build or develop a new understanding of the drying process of lumber and veneer. Be responsible for conducting daily audits of lumber, size checks, stacking of lumber (rough and finished grades). Proposing strategies to reduce costs and improve procedures. Manage the quality of our lumber and plywood business to accomplish strategic production goals; including review of product quality/mix while working closely with the mill to match required customer and APA/PLIB specifications. Test product to determine quality based on required APA/PLIB and customer specifications. Learn lumber grades, panel grades and veneer thicknesses. Obtain and maintain APA/PLIB certifications. Manage, support, coach and develop new hires, operators, and other team members regarding quality expectations by providing timely feedback and direction related to production and inventory. In addition to measuring quality, you will also oversee the inventory as it moves throughout each process utilizing SAP in both lumber and plywood. This includes : Managing inventory tracking system to record deliveries, production, and stock levels Evaluating product levels to improve inventory control procedures Analyzing daily product levels to anticipate inventory problems and shortages Communicating with employees to meet business goals and address inventory issues Reporting on inventory levels and procedural efficiency to upper management You will be challenged with opportunities to build upon your strengths, and to develop new skills and abilities that will promote your professional growth. You will provide expert advice to the management team regarding information about how production is running and reaction to conditions related to quality. You will determine Root Cause Analyst (RCA) for issues that occur during the production process. There will also be opportunities to visit customers and assess claims. There will be the opportunity to supervisor in various departments and contribute to areas based on the needs of the business.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • A minimum of three plus years of experience in industrial panel or lumber production or quality assurance required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work safely and effectively with others to accomplish group objectives.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and achieve goals in a timely manner.
  • High degree of leadership skills and expertise in building and maintaining long-term relationships with the ability to quickly establish and maintain rapport.
  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Utilize business productivity and analysis tools including MS Office Suite (including Excel, PowerPoint), SPC.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quality Assurance, Management or other related field preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of specialized experience in plywood or lumber production is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
