About The Position

Chicago Meat Authority (CMA) is proud to have celebrated 32 years in the food industry. Located in Chicago's historic Stockyards, CMA is a forward thinking processor of value added beef, pork, and poultry items with a strong focus on selling the Healthcare, Hotel, and Institutional Markets (HRI), meat purveyors, and Multi-unit regional and national chains up to and including big box stores. In addition, CMA specializes in custom cuts for further processors including but not limited to grinding operations, deli manufacturers, and the prepared entrée market. CMA is seeking a Quality Control Technician that is highly motivated and detail-oriented. This individual will play a key role in ensuring that our products meet, or exceed, company, customer, and regulatory expectations. This person will be an active participant of a team that believes in providing our customers with a product of the highest quality and safety.

Requirements

  • Quality control experience.
  • Strong English, math, writing and reporting abilities.
  • Basic computer skills - Word, Excel, SharePoint.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, holidays and weekends, if needed
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and push up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to crouch and bend.
  • Required to work overtime (including some Saturdays).
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Follow all safety regulations and support others in working safely.
  • Required to wear all personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work with cold materials in a cold environment.
  • High school diploma.
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish.

Nice To Haves

  • Meat processing and/or refrigerated manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and monitor processes and products.
  • Perform daily check of temperatures and visual inspections in production and warehouse as well as freezer/cooler storage areas.
  • Complete all necessary HACCP forms and all defined actions within, and address comments and concerns with supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Inspect raw materials for proper specifications, codes, lot numbers, and dates including information necessary for lot tracing on batch sheets and other approved forms.
  • Ensure implementation of quality assurance and other requested company standards throughout production, receiving, and shipping. Maintain documentation of records.
  • Conduct testing and follow procedures.
  • Assist with implementation of quality and food safety programs and policies.
  • Conduct calibration of measuring devices such as thermometers and metal detectors.
  • Maintain detailed, timely and accurate records.
  • Report results, concerns and problems to QA Management in a timely manner
  • Participate in problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Complete all necessary HACCP activities and documents.
  • Continuously monitor production and warehouse activities to ensure compliance with GMPs.
  • Utilize computers for recording results, generating forms, monitoring specifications and obtaining various documents.
  • Initiate the hold process for nonconforming product and equipment.
