About The Position

NAI is a leader in nutritional health, manufacturing whole food-based supplements. The QC Supervisor, Chemistry is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the activities of the QC chemistry staff to support operations, planning, production, and R&D, ensuring compliance with cGLP/cGMP regulations and company policies. This role involves managing laboratory operations, staff, equipment, and safety protocols within the chemistry lab.

Requirements

  • BA/BS, MS or Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years (BA/BS) or 4 years (MS) or 2 years (Ph.D.) of analytical chemistry in a cGLP/cGMP lab.
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Strong analytical and technical troubleshooting skills, especially with chromatography instrumentation such as HPLC.
  • Ability to investigate and resolve chromatographic, physical, and wet chemical issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, other NAI departments, contract labs, clients, vendors, service technicians.
  • Ability to write quality reports, SOPs and other work-related documents.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform under stressful conditions.
  • Regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel; talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit and stand.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.
  • Lifting requirement: Up to the maximum safety-recommended 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all QC staff receive training in cGMPS, SOP’s, and company policies.
  • Writes, revises, and reviews QC SOPs.
  • Develops and implements corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Manages OOS notifications and investigations from contract laboratories.
  • Oversees day-to-day chemistry laboratory operations to meet production and R&D needs.
  • Plans daily and weekly work assignments for chemistry analysts.
  • Collaborates with the lab administrative team and director to assign and revise testing priorities.
  • Provides technical guidance to staff on laboratory procedures.
  • Reviews analyst work and notebooks, prepares final reports, and ensures proper record-keeping.
  • Evaluates and improves lab procedures.
  • Performs out-of-specification (OOS) and out of trend (OOT) investigations.
  • Communicates with other NAI departments regarding sample and project status.
  • Manages the qualification, validation, and maintenance program for chemistry lab equipment.
  • Assists with laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration programs, including troubleshooting.
  • Provides technical leadership for instruments such as HPLC, HPTLC, UPLC/MS.
  • Oversees chemistry inventory to support lab operations.
  • Communicates with contractors regarding lab equipment and vendors regarding specialty consumables.
  • Supervises the QC chemistry staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating competency, mentoring, and disciplining.
  • Manages the training program for chemistry analysts on laboratory procedures, analytical instruments, and testing methodologies.
  • Ensures adequate and up-to-date training records are kept for lab staff.
  • Oversees a proficiency testing program to monitor training efficacy.
  • Reviews staff performance, addresses deficiencies, and performs annual review assessments.
  • Maintains a safe, organized, and clean work environment in the chemistry lab.
  • Assists in the management of NAI Chemical Control Program.
  • Oversees the lab Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Manages the lab hazardous material disposal program and oversees proper disposal of all NAI wastes.
  • Maintains an up-to-date inventory of hazardous materials with regulatory agencies.
  • May act as a QC representative to the Safety committee.
  • Maintains cGLP and cGMP standards and ensures adherence to NAI procedures and policies within the chemistry Lab.
  • Reviews and revises Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other QC documents.
  • Participates actively in audits (internal and external) and in remedial actions for non-compliance observations.
  • Performs special projects as assigned by the QC Director.
  • Performs duties of the QC Director in their absence.
