About The Position

The QC Inspector 2 is responsible for ensuring that all materials and workmanship meet company safety and quality requirements, as well as specific industry standards such as UL, STI, API, AWS, AISC, or City of LA standards, drawings, and specifications. This role involves inspecting materials and finished goods, including welds, base materials, parts, and coatings, to ensure they meet customer requirements and contract specifications. The inspector will also review welding specifications, document and address non-conformances, ensure equipment calibration, and support the company's Quality Management Systems. The position requires a willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends, and maintain prompt attendance.

Requirements

  • Complete course requirements for Quality Control Welding Inspectors.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards such as AWS, City of LA, API, UL, or STI.
  • Thorough knowledge of blueprint reading and contract documents, when applicable.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Leadership skills to motivate co-workers to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to be truthful and be seen as credible in the workplace.
  • Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
  • Dependable and trustworthy.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three years welding experience, or equivalent training in manufacturing/structural steel, Quality Control combination.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
  • Ensure materials and workmanship comply with relevant standards (UL, STI, API, AWS, AISC, City of LA), drawings, and specifications.
  • Inspect materials and finished goods, including welds, welding consumables, base material, cut & formed parts, layout work, and coatings.
  • Perform general knowledge of coatings inspection, including blast and paint inspections.
  • Review welding specs and/or requirements for each project.
  • Work with the team to solve fabrication challenges.
  • Document and segregate non-conforming fabricated material and workmanship.
  • Address remedies for non-conformances and their prevention with management and supervisors.
  • Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place.
  • Ensure inspection and welding equipment maintains current calibration and verification.
  • Ensure proper bolting and pre-qualification are completed per contract requirements.
  • Understand and support company Quality Management Systems.
  • Operate overhead crane safely.
  • Work flexible hours and overtime or weekends as needed.
  • Maintain prompt and dependable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
