Incotec USA in Salinas is seeking a Seed Analyst to perform seed quality testing and support laboratory operations. This role is responsible for conducting germination, vigor, purity, and related seed tests; maintaining accurate records; ensuring compliance with industry standards and quality requirements; supporting QC method validation; developing specifications and SOPs; and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Requirements

  • Knowledge of seed quality, testing, and conditioning.
  • Familiarity with seed testing methods, equipment, and quality systems.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of laboratory work.
  • Flexibility to meet seasonal business needs.
  • Experience supporting seed testing activities under an RST or CSA required.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a related scientific field.

  • RST or CSA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality standards and compliance within the department.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and programmes.
  • Perform advanced germination, vigour, stress, purity, and viability testing on seed samples.
  • Conduct seed testing in accordance with AOSA, ISTA, CFIA, customer specifications, work instructions, and applicable regulations.
  • Evaluate vegetable seed quality using standard germination, vigour, and stress testing methods.
  • Determine germination potential through the application of appropriate substrates, temperature, moisture, and seedling evaluation techniques.
  • Perform and document physical purity analyses and noxious weed seed examinations for all applicable species.
  • Determine seed purity based on pure seed, inert matter, other crop seed, weed seed, and noxious or prohibited weed seed content.
  • Apply knowledge of AOSA Rules, ISTA standards, Canada Methods & Procedures, the Federal Seed Act, and relevant state seed laws.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of testing methods for evaluating seed germination, vigour, uniformity, and stress tolerance.
  • Prepare testing materials, maintain accurate records, and support efficient laboratory operations.
  • Participate in internal and external comparative and proficiency testing programmes.
  • Maintain seed sample retention and storage records.
  • Interpret, document, and enter testing data and results accurately.
  • Ensure testing procedures and process controls comply with the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Operate, maintain, and perform routine calibration checks on laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with quality management and administrative activities as needed.
