About The Position

The Quality Assurance (QA) Test Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing tests, analyses requirements for early defect detection and track quality metrics for a range of systems or applications that make up business services. The role focuses on quality assurance on the whole product life cycle (SDLC), automating tests for software maintenance to work out ways to prevent bugs and defects efficiently. This role interfaces with the Enterprise Testing to support team deliverables and strategies, with wider ICT teams and other University stakeholders to support planning and implementing strategies for quality management and testing including identifying and implementing tests that are suitable for automation testing and reporting on the benefits of executing and maintaining test automation to the end user and ICT operations. The QA Test Engineer will be custodians of the test automation suite and executing performance testing that can support the CICD processes and regression testing for delivering and deploying product developments into an integrated environment. This role is critical in testing and inspection process to ensure ICT and partnering vendors release high-quality products that meet customers’ expectations and requirements. It requires detail-oriented testers who can evaluate problems and implement consistent improvements, be technology agnostic and work autonomously in projects and operational environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and demonstrated experience.
  • Extensive experience in test automation with a strong background in developing and maintaining automation frameworks, regression test suites, API testing, and CI/CD pipelines within Agile environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in software testing and quality assurance, including the Software Testing Lifecycle (STLC), test methodologies, non-functional testing, performance testing, and quality governance.
  • Hands-on experience with modern automation tools and technologies, including Selenium WebDriver, SoapUI, JMeter, REST APIs, Java, Cucumber, Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, Robot Framework, PowerShell, and related scripting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues, manage defects and incidents, identify opportunities for improvement, and deliver practical, high-quality solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences, build effective relationships, and work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
  • A proactive and continuous improvement mindset, with excellent organisational skills, a commitment to knowledge sharing and mentoring, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies, applications, and business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain robust test automation frameworks, automated regression suites, and API tests to support the delivery of high-quality, reliable digital services.
  • Drive quality across the software lifecycle by creating test plans, test cases and automation solutions, identifying defects early, and ensuring timely, successful releases to production.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing testing processes, developing standards and automation practices, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and service delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership by championing testing best practices, contributing to solution design and technical roadmaps, and ensuring compliance with University quality standards and governance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, business stakeholders and project teams to deliver innovative testing solutions, manage risks, and support successful project outcomes.
  • Monitor performance and report on outcomes by maintaining test automation pipelines, analysing quality metrics, and providing insights that drive informed decision-making and continuous optimisation.
