About The Position

Tests and conducts routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, in-process, and finished product, using a variety of testing devices and procedures to maintain product quality. This role involves testing and inspecting products at various stages of the production process, compiling and evaluating statistical data to ensure product quality and reliability. The QA Tech will perform analytical tests on samples using instrumentation and equipment, conduct calculations, and record results to maintain a record of product quality. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the implementation of total quality management programs and training others. Teamwork and adherence to Simmons Operating Systems principles are essential. The position also requires performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be able to pass the company issued Quality Assurance test.
  • Standing on feet for the entire shift.
  • Bending at waist.
  • Using both hands.
  • Walking.
  • Lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Must be able tolerate temperatures above 100º or below 32º at any given time.
  • The working environment is wet, cold and at times walking surfaces are slippery.
  • Personal safety is a must for this area.
  • Must be able to move, push or pull up to 55 pounds from table to scales at waist level.
  • Bend, stoop, walk, stand and work in a cold, wet, noisy, dusty environment for entire shift.
  • This position involves repetitive motion and may include rotating through cold and hot areas of the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.
  • Performs analytical tests on samples, using instrumentation and equipment and performs calculations to measure factors.
  • Tests product to verify factors.
  • Collects and records results of sampling and testing to maintain record of product quality.
  • Collects, measures, and weighs samples of materials.
  • Assists in implementing a total quality management program and/or trains others on total quality management.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and coordinating work to ensure best practices.
  • Familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity and communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
  • Works on a moving conveyor belt using both hands.
  • Spreads or styles product by hand on the belt.
  • Performs multiple types of packing and weighing.
  • Pulls bones from product; inspects, grades and removes product that does not meet standards.
