About The Position

The QA/QC Inspector performs and assists in the physical and metallurgical tests on start-up and in-process production parts in a metal fastener facility. This role involves performing tasks associated with the verification and validation of part quality, including preparation techniques of metallurgical mounts such as grinding, cutting, polishing, and etching products. The inspector will operate and interpret findings from Micro-Hardness testing equipment, perform start-up and in-process tests on production parts, and has the authority to stop production if parts do not pass quality standards. They must read and understand print drawings and specifications, verify calibration on all equipment, and report any safety violations or equipment misuse to the Supervisor. Additionally, the role involves verifying information on Manufacturing Order Route Packets, receiving and documenting sample parts, reviewing lab test results, conducting lab sampling, issuing and tracking production gages, and handling low-level acids for metal etching. The QA/QC Inspector may attend Material Review Board meetings, sort parts, support waste elimination initiatives, and is expected to continually seek improvement through training and by attending Company and department meetings. The role also includes inspecting fasteners for conformance to specifications, comparing products to ensure completion, completing final inspection reports, examining material for surface defects, verifying dimensions, rejecting defective parts, and ensuring lot integrity. Compliance with all company safety rules and procedures is mandatory, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Understanding of test equipment and procedures to include various hand gaging equipment and desk top test equipment.
  • Basic Microsoft Office understanding and usage.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of Metallurgical or physical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist in physical and metallurgical tests on start-up and in-process production parts.
  • Perform tasks associated with the verification and validation of part quality.
  • Perform preparation techniques of Metallurgical mounts such as grinding, cutting, polishing, etching products.
  • Operate and interpret findings from Micro-Hardness testing equipment on prepared mounts.
  • Perform Start-up and in-process tests on production parts.
  • Stop production if parts do not pass.
  • Read and understand print drawings and specifications for correct test requirements, procedures, and sampling plans.
  • Verify calibration on all equipment within the lab and from the factory floor prior to use.
  • Report any safety violations, test equipment misuse and/or improper work to the Supervisor.
  • Verify and ensure that all jobs and materials have accurate information on the Manufacturing Order Route Packet prior to release to the production floor.
  • Receive and document sample parts into the Quality Lab tracking system.
  • Review the lab test results to ensure all operations have been properly performed and recorded.
  • Conduct lab sampling as needed.
  • Issue and track production gages to the manufacturing floor.
  • Proper handling and use of low-level acids as part of the metal etching process.
  • Attend the Material Review Board meetings when required.
  • Sort parts in the lab if required.
  • Support and maintain waste elimination initiatives at the facility.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve by taking advantage of available training.
  • Attend all Company and department meetings as required.
  • Inspect fasteners for conformance to specifications by performing a variety of testing.
  • Compare product with parts list or sample model to ensure completion of assembly.
  • Complete final inspection reports for each lot of parts.
  • Examine material or product for surface defects such as cracks, or obvious plating defects.
  • Verify specified dimensions of product or material.
  • Reject defective parts and mark type of defect on part, container of parts, or inspection tag.
  • Verify that all required operations are complete and correct; ensure that lot integrity is maintained.
  • Operate comparator as required to inspect parts for dimensional requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
