About The Position

The QA Inspector - 2nd Shift is a fully onsite role responsible for performing routine visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspection and testing of subassemblies, units, and components to ensure conformance with quality standards. This role also involves inspecting returned products and requires interaction with engineering, sales, production, and external customers, potentially including travel to customer sites. The inspector will make dimensional and mechanical inspections of Gear Reducers, subassemblies, components, and units to ensure conformance with quality and engineering specifications. They will check parts using specific inspection procedures and direct reading instruments, inspect returns to determine root causes, and interact with all departments and end customers. Additionally, the role includes offering training to employees to improve quality and set processes, determining reasons for defects, and providing reason codes in the RGA log. The inspector needs sufficient mechanical skills and some knowledge in electrical motors to analyze failures and determine causes, and must be able to work with and assist engineering. Basic computer skills are required for quality-specific software tracking warranty data, and good interpersonal skills are necessary for customer support. The role also requires maintaining a clean and orderly work area (5S standard), working safely, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Thorough knowledge of gear reducer assembly, machining operations of parts, quality and engineering specifications.
  • Ability to perform to verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read/write English.
  • Ability to interpret/understand documents including but not limited to: specifications, routings, engineering drawing, test equipment/information, etc.
  • Ability to provide inspection with accuracy.
  • Knowledge/understanding of gauging techniques, blueprint reading/tolerance, and SPC sample plan.
  • Self-starter.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer (PC) skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspection and test of subassemblies, units and components to ensure conformance with quality standards.
  • Perform inspections of return products.
  • Make dimensional and mechanical inspection and test of Gear Reducers, subassemblies, components and units to ensure conformance with quality and engineering specifications.
  • Check parts using specific inspection procedures, direct reading instruments and test sets where allowable variations and limits are prescribed.
  • Inspect returns to determine root cause of problems.
  • Interact with all departments and end customers to do so.
  • Offer training to all employees to improve quality and set processes.
  • Determine reasons for defects.
  • Provide the reason code in RGA log.
  • Analyze failures and determine causes with sufficient mechanical skills and some knowledge in electrical motors.
  • Work with engineering and assist them.
  • Operate quality specific software tracking warranty data.
  • Work with customers to support our products in the field.
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly (5S standard).
  • Work in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
