About The Position

The Qa/Food Safety Superintendent is responsible for managing assigned personnel to ensure optimal performance, leading through effective goal setting, communication, and coaching. This role involves directing and assigning personnel, providing assistance, training, and advising employees on daily needs to improve performance and productivity. The Superintendent also evaluates and implements employee corrective actions, maintains open dialogue with the team, and ensures all company policies are followed. A key aspect of the role is monitoring and supervising all aspects of quality, ensuring products meet or exceed quality specifications and regulatory requirements. The Superintendent acts as a liaison between customers, USDA, and the production team, leading third-party audits and ensuring compliance with safety rules and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). This position also involves administrative tasks and may include other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of Food Safety and Quality Assurance experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • HACCP Certification Required
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and/or Access) to analyze data and trends
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or related field preferred but not required
  • FSMA Certification Preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manages assigned personnel, ensuring optimal performance through goal setting, communication, and coaching.
  • Directs and assigns personnel, provides assistance, and trains employees on current daily needs to improve performance and productivity.
  • Evaluates, formulates, and implements employee corrective actions.
  • Maintains an open dialogue with the assigned team and resolves feedback and concerns in a direct and positive manner.
  • Ensures all company policies are followed.
  • Monitors and supervises all aspects of quality, ensuring work standards are followed.
  • Ensures product meets or exceeds quality incoming and outgoing product specifications.
  • Works with customers and USDA to ensure labels meet regulatory requirements.
  • Assures compliance with all company safety rules and GMPs.
  • Ensures random audits are performed on approved suppliers.
  • Leads all third-party audits, including formal responses and corrective actions.
  • Acts as a liaison between USDA and the production team.
  • Ensures products are produced to customer specification and are defect-free.
  • Ensures scale labels have all regulatory requirements set forth by USDA and the customer.
  • Ensures technicians are trained on proper work standards, maintain documentation, and monitor product or defects.
  • Ensures temperature checks are being performed on product.
  • Performs plant audits and inspections related to product quality.
  • Provides assistance with product evaluations when necessary.
  • Ensures all administrative tasks are completed timely and accurately.
  • May assume other duties as assigned.
