AI Native, QA Engineer

ConsumerAffairs

About The Position

ConsumerAffairs is seeking a QA Engineer to help a small QA team maintain quality across daily production deployments. The role works directly with developers and product owners to clarify requirements early and owns quality work from start to finish. AI is used throughout the QA process: team members help build and improve automated test agents, the end-to-end test suite, a release agent, and tools that make testing and releases faster and more reliable. The QA Engineer is an active member of a cross-functional team, focuses testing on the product areas where failures would most affect ConsumerAffairs and its customers, and helps improve QA processes, standards, and tooling. The role includes critically overseeing AI-driven tests, performing exploratory testing, investigating defects, managing environments and test data, and verifying daily production releases. Over time, the engineer is expected to develop an end-to-end understanding of ConsumerAffairs systems, services, and integrations.

Requirements

  • Experience creating and managing the testing process with AI tools as the primary interface.
  • A quality engineering mindset: assess whether AI-generated tests are appropriate and identify what AI did not plan to test.
  • Experience building and maintaining AI agents and prompts that write, run, or maintain automated tests, with critical evaluation of their output.
  • Comfort with Git and GitHub, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, and resolving merge conflicts.
  • Ability to build and maintain automated UI and API tests using a modern framework; the company currently uses Playwright.
  • Ability to test REST APIs, write SQL queries to check data, and use browser DevTools and logs to investigate failures.
  • Experience running tests in CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
  • Experience working with staging or QA environments, test data setup, and Docker.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and testing practices.
  • Ability to manage context shifts during the workday.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • A sense of ownership for the experience provided to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to stand by decisions, take responsibility for results, and transparently share good and bad outcomes.
  • Focus on results for the team and company.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Own quality for an area of the product as an active member of a cross-functional team, prioritizing testing based on customer and business impact.
  • Review tickets and designs before development begins; identify ambiguity, missing acceptance criteria, and untested edge cases.
  • Set up, run, and maintain AI-driven test agents; critically review their results and confirm their tests are reliable and cover relevant risks.
  • Perform exploratory testing to find issues missed by scripted tests, automation, and AI.
  • Investigate failures to determine whether their source is the application, test, data, environment, or integration.
  • Write clear, reproducible bug reports with evidence and impact, and work with developers until defects are resolved.
  • Maintain staging and QA environments, test accounts, and test data for reliable testing.
  • Run smoke tests on daily production releases and raise risks when evidence does not support confidence.
  • Build an end-to-end understanding of how ConsumerAffairs systems, services, and integrations work together.
  • Contribute to QA processes, standards, and tooling, and use production issues and lessons learned to improve test coverage.
  • Help build and improve automated test agents, the end-to-end test suite, the release agent, and tools for faster and more reliable testing and releases.

Benefits

  • Health care plan, including medical, dental, and vision.
  • Retirement plan (401k).
  • Life insurance, including basic, voluntary, and AD&D coverage.
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick time, and public holidays.
  • Family leave, including maternity and paternity leave.
