About The Position

Parsons is seeking a Mid-Level QA Automation Test Engineer to join its Mission Solutions modeling and simulation development team. The role helps ensure the quality, reliability, and usability of an application that integrates intelligence-informed, medium- to high-fidelity threat system models into a wargame simulation environment supporting a national defense mission. This is a hybrid role based in Huntsville, Alabama. The selected candidate must be local and able to report to the customer site as needed. The engineer will work with developers, systems engineers, and stakeholders to define and execute testing for a React and TypeScript application, including web and Electron workflows and Cesium-based geospatial capabilities. The role includes developing automated tests and frameworks, exploratory and risk-based testing, defect analysis, release qualification, CI/CD integration, and contributing to team QA standards. The position also participates in Agile ceremonies and provides technical guidance to junior QA engineers. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to Top Secret/SCI, which Parsons may sponsor and/or maintain. A bachelor’s degree in a related technical field and at least five years of relevant experience are required; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. The posting separately lists the security clearance requirement as none.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to Top Secret/SCI; Parsons may sponsor and/or maintain the clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field and 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance, software testing, test automation, or a related engineering role; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Professional experience with TypeScript or JavaScript and an automated testing framework such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or a comparable tool.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated UI, end-to-end, functional, and regression tests.
  • Experience with Cucumber, Gherkin, or other behavior-driven development practices.
  • Experience testing React applications or comparable component-based user interfaces.
  • Experience creating and executing test cases, analyzing results, reporting defects, and maintaining traceability to requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, debugging, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an Agile development environment.
  • Ability to learn and test complex software systems in technical, mission-focused environments.
  • Must be local to Huntsville, Alabama, and able to report to the customer site as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing or extending automation frameworks using TypeScript, Playwright, and Cucumber/Gherkin.
  • Experience testing complex React workflows and Material UI components.
  • Experience testing Electron desktop applications, including window behavior, application configuration, file access, or packaging.
  • Familiarity with Vite or similar modern frontend build tools.
  • Experience with Cesium, geographic information systems, virtual globes, mapping applications, or other geospatial interfaces.
  • Experience testing map-based capabilities such as panning, zooming, layer visibility, entity selection, terrain, imagery, dynamic visualization, and coordinate workflows.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or a comparable platform.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative source-control workflows.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, GitLab, or other test management and defect-tracking tools.
  • Experience with Python and/or C++.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation systems or mission-support applications.
  • Windows and/or Linux experience, including basic networking and system troubleshooting.
  • Experience mentoring junior test engineers or contributing to QA standards and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with developers, systems engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and define test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated tests using TypeScript, Playwright, Cucumber, and Gherkin.
  • Build end-to-end, functional, integration, and regression test coverage for a React and TypeScript application.
  • Create reusable automation frameworks, fixtures, utilities, test data, and reporting components.
  • Test web and Electron-based workflows, including navigation, forms, dialogs, tables, validation, accessibility, error handling, window behavior, and file access.
  • Validate Cesium-based geospatial capabilities, including map navigation, terrain, imagery, layers, entity interactions, visualization, and coordinate-based workflows.
  • Maintain BDD feature files and TypeScript step definitions with traceability to system requirements.
  • Analyze test results, troubleshoot failures, and distinguish application defects from test automation or environmental issues.
  • Document defects clearly and collaborate with developers through resolution and verification.
  • Conduct exploratory and risk-based testing to identify usability issues, edge cases, and defects not covered by automation.
  • Support regression testing, release qualification, and continuous improvement of test execution and reporting.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and improve test stability, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and peer reviews, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, demonstrations, retrospectives, and reviews of test artifacts and automation code.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior QA engineers and contribute to team-wide QA standards, processes, and testing methodologies.
