About The Position

Halo Investing is looking for a skilled QA Automation Engineer (Playwright) with 3 to 5 years of experience to join our engineering team in downtown Chicago (hybrid). In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and maintaining robust end-to-end automation test suites. Your primary focus will be leveraging Microsoft Playwright to ensure the stability, performance, and high quality of our modern web applications. The ideal candidate bridges the gap between development and quality assurance, bringing strong programming fundamentals, an eye for edge cases, and a passion for optimizing continuous integration (CI) workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, with 3–5 years of professional experience in Software Test Automation / Quality Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience building test suites with Playwright.
  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Proven experience configuring test execution inside CI tools (e.g., managing pipeline triggers, matrices, and test artifacts/traces).
  • Expert knowledge of the Page Object Model (POM), data-driven testing, test isolation, and API testing.
  • Teamwork and excellent communication skills required, in order to report bugs articulately and collaborate across technical teams to assist in resolution.
  • A proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous delivery and driving a culture of software excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure) and containerization tools like Docker strongly preferred, as well as prior experience in database querying (SQL/NoSQL) to handle automated test data setup and teardown.
  • Ideal candidate will provide examples of debugging and root-cause analysis skills to pinpoint failures quickly using Playwright Traces and Inspectors.

Responsibilities

  • Design, scale, and maintain stable end-to-end (E2E) and integration testing frameworks using Playwright.
  • Write clean, modular, and maintainable automated test scripts primarily utilizing Python.
  • Integrate automated test suites into DevOps pipelines.
  • Actively debug flaky tests, optimize execution speed, and implement stable locator strategies (such as accessibility roles and test IDs).
  • Partner closely with developers, product managers, and manual QA peers in an Agile/Scrum environment to review requirements and define comprehensive test strategies.
