About The Position

Technologent is seeking an experienced Python Backend Developer for a 12+ month contract project. The role is based 100% onsite in Phoenix, Arizona; candidates must currently live within commuting distance, and relocation is not available. The developer will build and maintain scalable backend applications, services, APIs, and integrations, with a focus on Python, PostgreSQL, asynchronous processing, distributed systems, and microservices. The role also involves workflow orchestration, real-time communication, testing, containerization, deployment support, secure API development, and exploring AI integrations and workflow automation.

Requirements

At least 8 years of professional experience in Python backend development and software engineering.
Strong proficiency in Python, including object-oriented programming, asynchronous programming, and backend application development.
Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services using Flask, FastAPI, or Django.
Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including SQL queries, database design, and performance optimization.
Experience with API integrations, authentication mechanisms, error handling, logging, and backend troubleshooting.
Understanding of asynchronous processing, background jobs, and distributed systems architecture.
Experience or familiarity with workflow orchestration frameworks such as Temporal, Apache Airflow, or Celery.
Exposure to real-time communication technologies such as WebSockets and Socket.IO.
Experience writing unit and integration tests using Pytest, unittest, or equivalent frameworks.
Hands-on experience with Git, pull requests, branching strategies, and collaborative code reviews.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based application deployments.
Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, JWT, microservices architecture, and secure API development.
Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate and resolve technical challenges independently.
Proactive and self-driven, with ownership, accountability, adaptability, and willingness to learn new technologies.
Must currently reside within commuting distance of Phoenix, Arizona; relocation is not available.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications, services, and APIs using Python.
Build and enhance RESTful APIs using Flask, FastAPI, or Django.
Design and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas, SQL queries, and data access operations.
Develop backend integrations with internal and external systems, including secure authentication, error handling, logging, and monitoring.
Implement asynchronous programming, background processing, and distributed workflows for high-volume applications.
Develop and maintain workflow orchestration and task execution solutions using technologies such as Temporal, Apache Airflow, or Celery.
Implement real-time communication capabilities using WebSockets, Socket.IO, and related technologies.
Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests to support application quality, reliability, and performance.
Collaborate through Git-based workflows, pull requests, and code reviews.
Support application containerization, deployment, and release management using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Implement secure backend solutions using OAuth 2.0, JWT, and microservices architecture.
Explore and integrate AI capabilities, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and AI-driven workflow automation into backend applications.
Troubleshoot complex backend issues, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement technical solutions.
Own development deliverables, contribute to technical improvements, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions.
