About The Position

Maintains and operates various types of heavy motorized equipment used in the maintenance, construction, and repair of the city's infrastructure and facilities; undertakes a variety of maintenance activities for public works and/or maintenance. Receives general supervision from the Supervisor, Commissioner, and Water Superintendent. Provides technical guidance to crew workers assigned to positions of grade 10 and lower.

Requirements

High School or GED.
2 Years of experience in the Departmental of Public Works.
Hoisting License 2B Backhoe/Loader.
C.D.L. Class B with Air Brake and Tank Endorsement (or six (6) months to obtain a Tank Endorsement.).
Ability to lift up to one hundred pounds.
Must be able to distinguish colors and operate assigned vehicles.

Responsibilities

Operates various types of motor equipment, front-end loader, compressor, and jackhammer.
Performs other skilled and unskilled tasks in connection with such operations.
Performs tasks involving manual labor requiring the highest degree of skill in the construction, operation, and maintenance of water mains, water gates, sewers, and drains.
Performs tasks involving manual labor requiring a lesser degree of skill and incidentally supervises the work or a group (not more than ten) of laborers engaged in such work.
Performs related work as required.
Supports and assists the Highway Division with snowplowing and removal operations as needed during snowstorms.
